But that saying was around for years, even more so when they do the Dempsey Marciano matchs. And for some odd reason it just bugs me lol

Sure Dempsey had speed and better punch combos than Marciano, while Marciano was better for the long haul and a better right. Also he didnt lose it like Dempsey would if tag, and keep his head.

I dont think Marciano would have rush into the right hands of Firpo like Dempsey did after getting tag like that imo.

burt is right ko's arent simply from brute force, their are more factors as well.

That's a different point. They were boxers and Rocky was a slugger .. different skill sets ...

Correct yaca...A small example [very small].When I was in high school,
a century ago, they performed a test in which all students, hit a punching bag, which registered the amount of force,by hitting an electronic device..
I had a good right hand.surprisingly i at 145 lbs then ,won.. Meant nothing
much translated ,when I boxed...Speed,speed, and timing, along with dexterity, makes a puncher, and that is why I believe that Dempsey and
Joe Lous [my boyhood idol],were the two best heavyweight punchers.
Big and strong enough for any mastodon 250 pounders, without that extra
    weight to lug around....

Dempsey,Louis and Marciano had freakish power, Super heavyweight power in a lighter frame but people forget Heavyweights trained to make weight at that time. Louis came in at a muscular 235lbs for an exhibition and looked good but he trained down for his next official fight, he was conditioned mentally to make weight and felt better being prepared for the 15 rd limit.

While I think Dempsey had brutal 2-fisted power and was an early aggressor, I think Marciano has him beat in the one-punch department and is certainly the stronger in the championship rds 10-15...also Marciano underrated for his ability to get inside of a fighters timing and Rocky beat some quick and slick guys to the punch. Dempsey was the quicker starter of the 2

I remember listening to the old champion john conteh saying "a boxer is beter than a fighter because a boxer can always fight"

Moore, walcott and charles could fight like tigers and knockout world class heavyweights as well as box with the best of them. Marciano could not "box with the best of them" hence "they could do everything beter than marciano"
