His footwork, speed, footspeed, and accuracy have gone down by a huge margin. He still has his power but it's not like he's a one-hit ko artist either. Call me sadistic but I prefer two old guys beat each other up than an old guy either be a stepping stone to the younger fighters or losing to younger guys they would most likely beat in their primes. This sport isn't nice on the older fighters so to see guys like Moore, Hopkins, Walcott, etc. makes me really appreciate defense and the importance of good fundamentals.
I think he is, he may still be able to handle himself against certin B- level opposition BUT he has been in decline since 05 and is far from the fighter he was at his peak (98-2001). If he isn't shot than he certinly isn't far from it and he is definitely over the hill.
Not totaly shot but well on his way.He should retire,he is a great fighter and a nice guy.It would be a shame to see him go out on the wrong end of a KO.He has nothing to prove and should just wrap it up.
I hear ya there. There is a point where an older top fighter 'can' pass the torch to a younger hungrier fighter, but when an old fighter is fed to a young guy for the sole sake of having his name on his resume, then it's bull****. Think Campbell vs. Ortiz.
I can understand a fighter wanting to face a veteran for experience but it's sad when the veteran is a shell of their former self.
Floyd Mayweather, 2005 and up specifically, does seem to turn guys into "shot" fighters and overnight makes them not dangerous. Gatti, Judah, de la Hoya, Hatton, JMM, and now, Mosley.
Here is the skinny on Shane: Not what he used to be. But not shot, in fact far from it. He was beaten by Floyd but I think a prime Floyd would have beaten a Prime Shane in a closer fight. And this Mora fight was a case of terrible match-making. He should not been in there with a tall mover who happened to be a middleweight. That being said, I thought he won that fight. He didn't look good doing it. We have to remember Mora is a little underrated. He did beat Vernon Forrest at 154 a few years back. Plus he fought almost his whole career at Middle. Mosley still packs a punch. He just fights in bursts now, and not the full round. Against Pacquiao that would be exposed. But Mosley punches hard for all 12 rounds and he is full welter. If he has something left a fight with Pacquiao would be interesting just for the simple fact he punches hard to the head and body. Plus his chin is sturdier then Cotto's was. While Mayweather is really in truly the only fight for Pacquiao. I still think a Mosley fight would be exciting while it lasts. Mosley reminds me of Glen Johnson. He would come to fight against Pac. Pac's beat everybody not named Mayweather though.
You said Ricardo Mayorga is shot... and Shane struggled with him pretty bad. You forgot to mention that performance.
Or Williams but lets not go there lol. I do agree that the Mora-Mosley fight was a case for bad matchmaking so considering him shot after that fight is not imo the best thing to do. Mayweather is a stylistic nightmare for him too but when they were prime I doubt Mayweather would recover if he got hurt like he did in May '10.
If Mosley fights Pac he needs to start taking that **** again and maybe we will see the Shane we saw when he fought Margo. Even Playing field.
Dude still hits like a mule, and fought the most skilled boxer of his generation, then chased around Mora for twelve rounds. If he got in a fight with someone who wanted to trade we would see what happened to Marge. Dude has some serious power
I agree with weavertime in the comparison of Mosley and Glen Johnson. Mosley could still beat a lot of great young boxers who would want to go toe-to-toe and fight
