this is something that is really mentioned,

people talk of how tyson did not want to fight foreman

    maybe but why should he?

its clear foreman picked his oppentents very careful and there is a reason
he didnt fight ruddock or bruno or mercer or even dokes etc

    the reason is simple

in the ring foreman liked to be the boss walking guys down and using his physical and punching power to win,

often pushing guys back before hitting them

but i am sure he knew he would problems doing it to big strong punchers like these guys...a guy like bruno or ruddock would be hard to push around lol

how do you guys think his fights would gone with

    ruddock
    bruno
    mercer
    dokes
    tucker

be interesting what guys could trade with him and stand their ground

remember we are talking comeback foreman of late 80's and early 90's

Ruddock would be pretty scary for Foreman. I could see Mercer and Bruno doing well against him too. Foreman definitely picked guys he could knock out; guys who planted themselves in front of him. Good thread.

Pretty much did the same thing in his career first time around too.
He got that shot with Joe Frazier after going 37-0 against mostly tomato cans and made-to-measure opponents.

Mercer would have fought Foremans fight and Bruno would be stopped late most likely. The rest would give Foreman problems with movement. Ruddock with his back peddaling counterpunching would have probably hurt Foreman really badly. Tucker in his prime was very mobile, maybe its a little closer in 91 or 92, but most likey he wins a comfortable UD.

yes foreman did have problem with movement,

but he must not liked guys who were big phyiscally strong punchers
because he didnt seem want to fight them

yeah i can see tucker outboxing him or ruddock hurting him badly by having
    foreman walk into a bomb.

but i can see foreman winning too

i think bruno and foreman would fun as hell to watch,
same with foreman against mercer or dokes

The Foreman of the Cooney and Rodriguez fights was about the best George looked in his 2nd career.

Foreman v Dokes - GF would have been too much for MD and likely scored a TKO in about 6rnds

Foreman v Mercer - Mercer tough to hang with Foreman but was hot and cold. Mercer at his best may last the course. The Mercer that lost to Holmes and drew with Marion Wilson more than likely gets stopped on his feet.

Foreman v Ruddock - IMO, Razor was better when he used his skills as opposed to just trying to blast the opposition away. Dangerous fight for an old GF. Could see Razor landing his bomb of a left hook here. Would GF be able to take it? There no evidence for George being KO'd by one punch from anyone so i reckon Ruddock coulda taken a decision here. Could Ruddock take Foreman's best tho?

Foreman v Bruno - Frank was big and strong and could hit but lacked stamina and was there to be hit. For those reasons I reckon GF woulda got to FB and got him outta there

Foreman v Tucker - Tucker had slowed down a bit by the 90s, still a good boxer tho and likely 2 give GF some problems. Potential for a TT pts win here but I still reckon GF woulda got him in the end

    interesting....

foreman would probably stop dokes but not without a hard time

foreman vs mercer...who knows, mercer was a hot and cold fighter
but in any case it would a great fight to watch

ruddock vs foreman, foreman had better stamia and all but he liked to walk guys down, here he would walk into a monster left hook....
interesting to see how he would talke,
same how would ruddock take his shots?

bruno and foreman, you say bruno was there to be hit, well so was foreman, and bruno's stamia, might not be as a big an issue against
    a slow moving foreman....
there would be some serious power jab exchanges

foreman and tucker....tucker's movement and jab posses alot of problems for foreman, interesting fight

There are some valid points mentioned in this thread, and as a Foreman fan, I'll be the first to admit that most of his opponents were hand picked... But let's not simplify this whole thing to George just "ducking" every worthy opponent that was out there. Some of those guys who were mentioned were not exactly going out there and earning there rated positions in the purest way possible either. From 1984 to 1993 Michael Dokes wasn't beating anyone of note, and in fact was stacking his record with the usual cans like Bobby Crabtree, James Pritchard, Wesley Watson, Lionel Washington, Rocky Popelli, ect... In fact, the man hadn't beaten a single rated contender, but still got a title shot against Bowe. A similar claim can be made for Bruno who got shots at Witherspoon, Tyson, Lewis and McCall.. Ruddock was beating up past prime opponents who had little left asside from their names.

If nothing else Foreman was at least keeping a lot busier than any of those guys, mostly fighting similar or in some cases, even the same people, and even threw in an occasional good name like Rodriguez, Cooper and Stewart... He was destroying a lot of the same journeyman and tomato cans that had even taken guys like Dokes the distance, and did so after 10 years of retirement and returning at an old age..

  13. you are an absolute idiot.
if you are comparing the strength and the power of george foreman(who wanted fight tyson much stronger than ruddock) with ruddock.. then you are nothing but a punk ignorant.
foreman faced tommy morrison who was stronger and more powerful than ruddock, tommy destroyed ruddock, and still morrison ran during all the fight from foreman.old foreman faced a prime shanon briggs (who was stronger and more muscular than ruddock) and foreman was stolen.
gerry cooney was bigger and harder puncher than ruddock. and foreman wanted fight mike tyson who was stronger than all these guys. and we are talking on old foreman... a prime foreman would have destroyed all these guys. obviously you know **** about boxing. foreman might to be outboxed, but he loved to face statics and strong guys. simply because foreman is the strongest and the most powerful in any era. a prime foreman 72-74 would ko ruddock in 2, mercer by tko in 5. tucker by ko in 6. bruno by ko in 1-2. and dokes ko in 3.
