Move over Floyd Mayweather and step aside Manny Pacquiao. There is a new name atop the list of best boxers in the world. His name is Sergio Martinez! I have to admit that I am a bit surprised. I thought Paul Williams was going to win and become the new #1. I honestly thought Williams was winning but winning in the 2nd round dose not mean going to win the fight. It was a near perfect counter by Martinez that ended things. Martinez deserves for now to be considered the best boxer in the world. It is going to be intresting to see what Mayweather and Pacquiao do next. Martinez has every right to face either of them. He can try to unify the middleweight championship. He can go to 168 to take on the winner of the Super 6, or Lucian Bute. There is also the chance that the ripple effect of this result, is that Mayweather and Pacquiao soften their terms for a fight between the two of them. It depends on what Pacquiao and Mayweather decide to do next but for now at least. Sergio Martinez is the best boxer in the world.

why not G.O.A.T? I'm sure he'll slide to #2 goat when Froch KOs Abraham, then the two slides further on who KOs who in Maidana / Khan fight.

Martinez beats them both. Pac has cherry-picked his last 6 fights. Floyd has done it almost his whole career.

He can beat them both, but he's not the best p4p just because he'd beat him with his size. If he was the same size as Floyd, he wouldn't have as good a chance

  5. no.2 perhaps cause floyd is inactive...no.1?nope, not yet.....

It is a good win, but Manny is still ahead of him. Martinez is not an easy fight for Pacman. Martinez is strong and a decent puncher who is slippery. It would not be the war Manny usually has. Not a good fight for Manny at all. I think he would lose a decision or get stopped late. Bad matchup for him. Williams was the better matchup. Williams didn't fight like the taller fighting tonight.

I'm surprised how many people think Williams was winning that fight. I know we'd only seen a round but I thought Martinez had clearly won that round. All I can guess is that HBO must have been sucking Williams' **** in the commentary or something.

No he's not. He's arguably clearly #3 now, and he could have a case to surpass Mayweather (given Floyd's inactivity). But no way does he surpass what Manny has been able to do in past couple of years on the back of 2-3 50-50 fights.

    He never does.

I think Williams is overrated. He never uses his physical advantages properly. A fighter that tall and skinny should surely do a better job on the outside with the jab and straight rather than going in close with his head down.

I'm not just saying this now jumping on some newly formed bandwagon, I've been saying it for a while.

Williams wasn't winning the fight and Martinez is not the best P4P fighter, though he's my number 3.
