This clown was acting as if Martinez landed some lucky shot, saying Paul was in "control" up until the KO. Someone fire this old senile man! Martinez was clearly in control. Won the first by landing the cleaner shots, and at the time of the KO was starting to really hit Paul with some big left hands. I think even had Paul remained upright, he woulda just walked into Marvailla's fists all night long. FIRE Manny Steward! This dude is ****in blind, and biased as all get out.
No one was in control I would say. The first round was 50/50, I gave it to Williams but it could be for Martinez and I can't argue with anyone that gave it to Martinez. Then the KO happened and it was history. In the end Martinez said that they planned to score something like that when the opportunity comes and they knew Williams will be open for it but obviously didn't fully expect a quick KO but planned for it. Steward giving praises to Williams should be understandable, did you expect him to fully **** on him and ask people to forget he existed?, Williams will still fight after this one you know, this is his job/life.
I agree. He sucks. Those pinpoint counters were landing flush on williams chin and stewart was like, this fast pace will make a tough night for sergio. I texted my friend, this is not going to last if he keeps landing those shots and stewart is an idiot who don't know s**t about boxing. Then I looked up and the fight was over.
Yeah i don't care much for Steward, once he sets up a little description of events/trends/patterns he attempts to manipulate things in support of it regardless of how incorrect it is.
Yeah I though he was over doing it saying Williams was fighting a perfect fight, in control etc.......The fight only went a round and a half, that's not long enough for anyone to be totally in control.
Manny, as always, favors the tall and rangy fighters. Its like he pays no attention to what the other guy is doing. Great trainer, increasingly bias commentator.
I was a bit worried Williams was going to outwork him in the beginning of the first throwing and landing a bit more, until it became clear that Martinez was throwing the harder and more accurate blows.
I actually like Steward....but tonight the whole HBO crew in general were giving Williams too much credit, except Lederman who gave the first round to Martinez. I thought Martinez won the first round too.
He trained him for a good while, you'd expect him to forge some sort of relationship with de la Hoya and know more so than anyone else what de la Hoya possessed. Just like why he holds a certain bias against Roberto Duran, considering he had known Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns since they where children he was going to hold them in higher accord. Back to topic, I like Manny but he does let his personal relationships get in the way often.
During the Pac fight he even said he gave the 6th round I think it was to Margarito, but after ledderman put his card up, he says: well i gave the round to Pacquiao also, but it was a comparable round that a judge might give Margarito the round cause it was better than the others.
Although I don't agree with this part (I don't think either fight was "in control" until the KO) I agree that Steward blows. Only a couple minutes into the fight, he's already trying to predict how the fight is going to go.
This is true, but true of many. He's no Al Bernstein as far as objectivity goes but the man usually calls it right. He has a great eye and I think he's a knowledgeable guy and he can sense things in a boxing match most don't pick up. He's far far far better than Max or Bob Papi. Kellerman is getting better, though.
