It doesn't matter how hot a commodity he is. "Hotness" isn't the criteria for the awards.

The FDA doesn't say "Well, people like chocolate bars a whole lot, so we're going to say that chocolate bars are the healthiest thing you can eat!". That's essentially the logic you're using by saying Pac deserves the award based on being the hottest commodity at the moment. The one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Pretty much the unanimous consensus criteria for FOTY is that it must be very competitive (not dominated by one participant).

Pacquiao-Margarito was nowhere near competitive enough to even be in the top 20 FOTY.

Even Martinez-Pavlik, while it was closer, was still not close enough to call a FOTY.

It has to be true back-and-forth give and take with momentum shifts.

For the record, Pac-Marg wasn't THAT entertaining if you're truly objective (ie not a fan or hater of either guy). It was cool but there has been better sustained action this year...lots of times.

So name one fight that is candidate for fight of the year now?

You must be watching hundreds of non- televised fights because this year has Been relatively disappointing.

There are still good fights that are coming up but as of the moment, for it's sheer entertainment value this fight is the top at the moment.

What?! :blood :scaredas:....you must be joking...surely....you were joking.

 Ok, I bit that was a good joke you had me going there for a second Ima have to keep my eye on you. :nut

Anyway, there are about 15 fights off the top of my head that were much better fights than Pacquiao-Margarito, and I don't care if The Ring or Fightnews or BWAA or whoever awards that fight FOTY, because it sure as hell wouldn't be mine, but if they did give it out to Pacquiao-Margarito then they lose their boxing credibility.

    :deal

    At this point

Marquez JUANMA ranks higher then PAC/Margo even though both would not likely be close to FOtY

You can't usurp something that hasn't been given to anyone. It's not Pac's for Martinez to take. Just clarifying.

That said, Martinez looks like the front runner.

Marquez Katsidis will be fight of the year. Sergio Martinez is the fighter of the year no question.

Come on man, you know Pacquiao's victories over Clottey and Margarito virtually guarateed him "fighter of the year" had Martinez not beat P Will in such a impressive fashion. He was in the driver's seat prior to tonight.

After tonight, that seat has a new occupant

    Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

In all seriousness, he should be in the conversation.

His 2010 record doesn't glitter all that brightly at first glance but look a bit more closely. He went 3-0 on the year and made two title defenses. In the first one he held off a young, undefeated and very hyped challenger in Kameda. Between the two he scored a sensational first-round knockout over someone who'd never been blown out like that.

There are lots of guys you can argue for being in the top 10 and the spots from 2 down are all negotiable.

#1 is pretty much locked up.
