I had the 1st round scored even, it was just too close to call.

......though I disagreed with Emmanuel Steward that that the Pace and tempo of the first round would benefit Williams.
I just cant see where the pace and tempo of a fight fought at a blistering pace and at close to mid quarters is going to favor a fighter with the height and reach of Williams.

I understand Williams loves to trade, but why he does'nt start the fight out at distance using the jab is beyond me.:!:

Martinez won the second round and was winning the second, but he knew he would get robbed again if he did not knock Williams out, and he did!

Williams refused to fight Martinez unless he got his judges, referee, venure, commentators, and Goosen had full control of the fight. Martinez had been robbed in the first fight. He knew that he had to knock Williams out or he would get robbed again. Catch weight was required by Williams also. I had Martinez winning the first round, the commentators were trying to tell us that Williams was winning the fight as usual, he was fighting a perfect fight. Oh well, Martinez took it out of the judges, commentator's, Goosen's hands. Great job Martinez.

    He wasn't allowed to. :deal

What's funny is that Max and Emanuel kept talking about how Martinez wasn't being allowed to get into his offensive rhythm because of Williams starting quickly - completely ignoring the fact that Williams had his jab snatched away from him like a little old lady's purse. :yep

They fought most of their first fight in that mode.
If I were Williams I'd sidestep Martinez' rushes and sting the jab out........just ones and two's in the inital start of the fight.......once in a rhythm, then you let the combinations flow......

........Williams however in this fight and the previous, was happy with trading with Martinez.

Paul Williams is a much better skilled fighter than Diego Corrales ever was.......but he reminds me alot of the bad habits Corrales had.....getting into trading wars with smaller more compact fighters and not using his height and reach to his advantage.

Well put. I hadn't ever thought of comparing him to Chico. There are definitely parallels there.

Martinez landed by far the best punches in that round, but the HBO crew (except Harold who gave Sergio the round) was riding Paul Williams dick up until he got KTFO.

Sergio easily. That same short hook he knocked PW out with in the second he landed the exact same in the first which briefly stunned him. Just before their big exchange where they both get some good shots in.

I like PW, so I hope some good comes of this and he learns some proper technique. He got away with it fighting smaller fighters at welter, but as Martinez demonstrated, and Cintron kind of did before he fell out of the ring he isn't too flash in the skills department.

It was a straight left, not a hook. Sergio's a southpaw. :good

Good call on Williams needing to learn a bit more craft. He's gotten by on physical traits and volume for quite some time.

Paul Williams was winning it by a fooking country mile.

Nah, I'm joking I just wanted to say that because both that fight and this fight have a lot of similarities between them.

I had Williams winning the first round, with Martinez closing the gap towards the end. Williams in the end edged it ever so slightly for me.

But in the second, it was Martinez's straight away. He was pasting him nicely with the left hand

Dang once I saw the first round I thought here we go again! They were fighting right where they left off. Even if it went the distance it was looking great. I gave it to Paul at first glance, but after watching the replays once again Sergio was landing the cleaner shots so it could of gone either way. Then Sergio lowered the boom heard across the globe. Thanks to 2 great warriors. This fight made my year.
