yeah. and sergio clearly isn't a slick afro-american fighter either.

i guess it's an acknowledgement on their part that pac is definitely #1 p4p and it's ok for them that floyd moves down to #3 just as long as pac isn't #1.

Martinez is one great fighter. He was robbed in the first fight with Williams, so he knew he had to knock Williams out to win. He set Williams up!

That's just one fight. Not yet. Perhaps next year. This guy could be a one fight wonder. He should prove himself to be the best by defending his crown.

Pacquiao is #1 on my list but I don't find it a disservice to him if anyone had Sergio #1 right now, and I've been one of his biggest critics on this forum. He impressed the **** out of me tonight. Like I literally took a **** immediately after the fight and I attribute it to Martinez's performance.

He's number 3 P4P at least. Definately deserves to be ahead of Donaire (although I'm a fan of his) on The Ring's list.

Settle petal, it was a very good win but does not rocket him to #1 P4P

Why the hell would you think either of them would become the new number one?

This is not some gut/shocked reaction from someone who is shocked. I have started at least one thread stating my opinion that the winner of Martinez/Williams should be ranked #1 and my reasons for this opinion.
The curent pound for pound list should be based on two things.
    1. The skills/tallant/abilities curently held by the boxers.
    2. The answer to the question. "What have you done for me lately?"
It is not about what will happen in the future. It is not a career pound for pound list.
What has Mayweather who has not fought since last May and is on "vacation"? If he was active he has the skills and recent resume to be #1, but he's inactive as of now. If he was active he would be the clear choice for #1. What about Pacquiao? Sure he has a more abillities than Martinez, but not Mayweather. What has he done lately? Margarito, Clottey and Cotto? Really? That makes for a good resume? Hatton who may have ben damaged goods. Forget about the loss to Mayweather by KO. You can't keep going up and down in weight. Without an adversre effect at some point. The Hatton win is becoming more and more in the past.
No Martinez dose not have the same talent that Mayweather or Pacquiao has. No one in boxing dose. He is however in the best of the rest. He has built up a very good resume in the past year or so.
The curent pound for pound rankings should be about right now. Not waht has happened in the past. Pacquiao's or Mayweather's many world championships should not come in to play. This is not about cater acomplishments. It is not about what might happen in the future.
This is about right now, and right now Martinez deserves to be ranked #1.

you dont get p4p by beating guys smaller than you, you get it by beating guys bigger than you. while beating pac or floyd would make sergio a superstar- it wouldnt necessarily elevate him past them on the p4p rankings in my estimation, for the same reason hagler is beneath duran on all time p4p, although he beat the snot out of him.

p4p isnt about who is better- its about who is better pound for pound- people forget what the meaning of the damn term is.
