I know we have a different view on this thread, but I couldn't agree with a post more right now.

i like pac but martinez definitely is fighter of the year as well as kaving KO of the year.

pac-margarito was too one-sided to be fight of the year. fight of the year has to be very competitive and very close.

if there was such as thing as boxing performance of the year, then pac may get that award.

Martinez, JuanMa, Montiel, Pascal, Wlad, Nishioka, Segura, Vazquez Jr. and Pongsaklek all of these fighters have a shot at being ahead of Pacquiao you can may'be debate Pacquiao has a better resume than may'be a couple on the list, but defo not Martinez, JuanMa, Montiel, and Pascal. (at least for the moment, he still has to face B-Hop)

Nishioka has had a ridiculously good two years for a guy nobody even knew about two years ago.

Martinez moved up in weight and beat the MW champ in impressive fashion... then KOd the number #6 P4P guy in the world in 2. I understand your argument, I just think it's Martinez, still Pac 2nd... lost maybe 1 round out of 24 against 2 former WW champs, world class fighters who were much much bigger than him.

    No question.

He came off of the canvas to nearly stop Pavlik and upset him for the title.

He dramatically KTFO Williams in a rematch, avenging a loss to a guy that has never been stopped, and was his #1 contender for the title.

He is the Lineal Middleweight Champion, joining the likes of SRR, SRL, Marvin Hagler, BHOP, Lamatta, and Monzon, among many others.

    Fighter of the year!:deal

Definately. Although Pacquiao's shut outs of Clottey and Margarito were great Sergio just plain shocked people with these two wins. Damn I really regret missing this fight.

Martinez is going to win it and its not going to even be close.

Such a great year for Sergio after getting screwed over in 2009.

  10. Sergio.

But that's only because Clottey sucked ass.

People would probably say Hopkins was as old as Father Time if that ever happened.

Margarito at least tried, but at the end of the day he didn't do much better than Clottey (unless you consider winning one round instead of zero to be "much better"). Both were hopelessly outclassed and out of their element in terms of speed. The only question that ever existed was whether a stray punch from either of them could hurt Pacquiao badly. With Clottey it was moot since he didn't throw anything, and with Margarito the answer came back: no. Pacquiao can take punches from true big welterweights just fine.

Martinez honestly had greater challenges in front of him before delivering beatings to Pavlik and Williams.

I definitely agree that Martinez is #1.

2-10 are flexible, and you could just as easily argue Pong as Pac in any one of those spots. Pacquiao was much more of a betting favorite against both of those former WW champs than Pong was over Kameda (almost even money).

Then he's up there in the top ten conversation with Pac and Pong and several others. Martinez still wouldn't budge.
