He got to do a lot more work to become a hall of famer. Clearing out middleweight division in impressive fashion will help his cause.

  3. he needs to unify first, take some scalp of two HOFs, then move up in weight, then i say yes!!

His arrival was too late, I think. He strikes me as the smart kind of guy that will retire a young man. As it is, he only has victories over champions (correct me if I missed any) and has only technically won two world title fights. It's just not likely he's going to do all that much more at his age, imo. I don't believe he's a future HOFer but, hey, who knows what fighter he might be able to step into the ring with?

Barry McGuigan managed to make it in the HOF I believe, I don't see why Martinez can't. I guess McGuigan managed to get to where he got against the backdrop of a divided country and that could have played a factor but like you say Sergio seems like a smart guy and might retire young. Also where is he going to go from here that is going to enchance his career? I doubt he'll get Manny or Floyd, there isn't any real talent within his weight range. He seems to be in no-mans land.

Like you said he probably will retire young. No doubt spend a while modelling underwear, after all it is what everyone on ESB wants (no homo).

If he'd retire right now he'd get my vote.

So yeah, most definitely a future HOF.

Is he as famous as McGuigan was? :conf I'm not slamming Martinez's quality, mind you. It's just that he hasn't been at the forefront but a short, short time. It's a hall of fame, not a hall of quality, dig?

Yeah the "Fame" part does it make a bit sketchy when one considers who goes in and who doesn't I guess.

Yeah, like, I can't imagine Gatti not going in, considering the following he had and the fights that became famous. Yet, quality-wise, nobody says he's on the level of say, an Ernesto Marcel, who still isn't in.

It depends a lot on the carriers of his victims : Cintron, Williams and Pavlic. If some of them manage to have successful careers and enter the HOF that will increase Martinez credibility

he doesnt have the option to retire young anymore, but i think if he defends his middleweight title against quality opponents for 2 years or so and then moves up to SM to win a title (with a couple big names here and there) he is a HOF.

Sergio is my favorite active fighter and i was talking about him making the HOF with a friend of mine last night. we came to the conclusion that 2 more high caliber wins would put him in IMO.

    I agree.

    He's a two weight champion isn't he? 154 and 160.

A belt at 168 would do it in my opinion. I think he'd beat Froch.
