Let me clarify something. I am not defending Williams by saying that wasn't a case of "glass jaw". I just hate when people take away from a great victory. Martinez worked hard to be where he is. When Paul Williams got lucky with that punch against Quintana nobody said Glass Jaw. All I heard was how awesome Williams was. "TTHE MOST FEARED FIGHTER". If they fight again tomorrow it could go very different, YES! But last night Martinez connected the perfect punch. End of the story

When you have people making unsupportable comments like this, that seem highly doubtful when you consider Martinez's 50 percent KO rate, it's clear that what the Chincheckers do is REALLY needed here at ESB. Thanks for clarifying this. I am not saying it's a "lucky punch." Actually, I don't believe in lucky punches for the most part. They're actually quite rare, and this clearly wasn't a case of it. But, there WERE signs that Williams didn't take a great shot, as I indicated. Basically, Martinez hit him with a well timed punch and because Williams doesn't exactly have a Chuvalo-like chin, his lights got put out. End of story.
Why take this so personally?? Some of you can't seem to get beyond the emotional hero-worship of your teen years and analyze the strengths and weaknesses particular fighters have. Some fighters have shaky chins. Deal with it.
01. Williams has taken shots throughout his career. Dude has a very solid chin. 02. I know it's a cliché, but that punch would have knocked most people out. He hits harder than given credit for [Cintron one punch KO, battered Pavlik and left him looking like a mess] and he caught Williams with a shot with his full bodyweight, one that PW didn't see while he had his chin up in the air and it landed flush. 03. **** off and die you old ****.
A timed perfect counter punch is often more devastating than a come forward looping hook from a power puncher. Martinez is a counter puncher and he hit Williams cleanly several times with hard shots that Williams took in the first two rounds before a picture perfect hook. It's not about KO percentages, different fighters have different styles not every fighter goes all out for the knockout, often the less skilled fighters become BRAWLERS as it's their only route to victory. Hence when you have someone like Martinez who is a counter puncher whose power is seriously underrated he shook up Pavlik/Cintron/Williams all elite LMW or LWW fighters. Remember Vic Darchinyian against Nanito Donaire? The perfect counter punch that had the usually strong chinned Darchinian out for the count, what about Herol Graham against Julian Jackson? Those are the punches a fighter doesn't see coming, what about Hatton against Mayweather and the brutal 'check hook' . It's easier to take a punch when you're not throwing and being the aggressor and walking onto it flush. As a chin checker you should know that there's certain ways to take a punch and some of it is in the mind, you see it coming you can prepare your mind for it, but if you don't see the punch it's lights out and goodnight. Glass jaws exist in boxing Amir Khan and perhaps now RJJ (who never had a glass jaw at the peak of his powers) but your obsession with them is bordering on insane, every boxer in the fight game will probably get knocked out. What about Margarito he got knocked out by Mosley does that mean glass jaw? Your logic is absolute bollocks, you should watch a fight instead of looking at KO percentages and boxrecing your way through your 'arguments'.
I agree long skinny Williams had the perfect body to get cought like that. But the man defeated some decent boxers. If you get KO like that by a nobody at the beginning of your career I might say: Retire, you have a glass jaw. But you have to have some respect for a man with a nice record and career. Plus, again, it was the perfect punch. You can't not predict anything when you talk about the brain. When the brain moves inside the skull after a punch like that it might not hit anything important, or it might turn your lights off. It just happens.
It was a hell of a shot.It reminded me of the one Jackson caught Herol Graham with.It would have KO anyone.As with Graham it was not down to having a glass jaw it was down to poor defence.If you get hit like that you are gone,nothing wrong with his chin,he has never shown signs of being weak in that area before.
Why because I have boxed in my life I have freinds who have boxed and been KO ed thats why !! Its easy to knock someone behind a keyboard ! Lace up a pair ,I bet you couldn't last 2 minutes ! The man was KOed for the 1st time in his career and now he has a glass jaw ? This is the 2nd time he fought Martinez !!
Yeah, and he hit the deck against him the first time too. And I am not saying 100 percent he has a glass jaw - that remains to be seen. If he gets starched again, then I hope you would give me credit for noticing this. And I never said I could or would lace 'em up. But I've been following this sport for 35 years, and I'm pretty good at identifying questionable chins. They exist in boxing. And it's nothing to be ashamed of. It just is.
I know guys who have boxed and they say if you get caught clean like that you dont feel a thing until you get brought round.Its one of those things that happens in boxing.It does not show a glass jaw,it could happen to Williams again in his very next fight or it could be the last time in his career that he is on the floor.Perfect shot!Nobody in the division would have taken that any better.
