Did weight hopping play a part for Williams getting knocked out? I think it might have, not that im taking away from Martinez's victory, as im not particularly a fan of either.

Also, I know this is with hindsight, but was it such a smart move, to be pressing a guy so early in the fight and not being mindful of your defense as you do it? given that his reflexes early in the fight, are as quick as they are ever going to be, meaning he has more chance of countering you.

 

I think so I always thought that eventually it would have caught up with him ! Can't keep going up and down in weight and think your body will just react just fine ..

 

leaky D and not using his physical attributes are the biggest issues

maybe a little it did. He should have established himself at a weight. For a tall guy he sure left his chin out there to be hit.

 

You have to give Marivilla credit though he kept closing that distance and wouldn't allow Paul to be at the end of his punches ..

 

yeah i take nothing away from sergio...in fact i had him winning the first fight, and picked him for this one (though not by 2nd round KO)

and that was one hell of a punch

fact is, ptp should never have been in that position...but he was, and got tagged (was hit before with that punch too, so sergio was looking for it)

Weight hopping? No! If we were talking about later rounds..... May be. The reckless way he started the fight was the problem. He was looking for that punch he connected to Quintana in their second fight. And he found it, but coming at him. That was all.

 

No, I don't think so. He was fighting at a weight which was suitable to him and he didn't struggle to make it. Most of these guys who can't take a shot after dropping weight, have lost 20+lbs of muscle, which WIlliams hasn't. He was able to fight from welter to middle, without really changing his physique and the weight for last night, suited him.

This is just what happens when a fighter leaves his chin in the air.

 

He was open for that left all night ..I also pciked him to win this fight and actually thought he won the 1st but dam I also didn't expect this ..One thing that Paul will have to work on is his short punches ..Now the blueprint to beat him is there ..Make sure you smother his punches ..

Nazim Richardson a while ago voiced his concern on Williams constantly jumping between weight divisions. He said eventually the fluctuations in fight-weight will catch up to him.

Now whether this was the case with last night, I don’t know. To me it was his dreadful defence and the inability to learn from the first fight, which made him get knocked out the way he did. Not the weight-hopping.

That was also one of those once in a blue moon punches a fighter lands that would have KO'd pretty much anyone.

 

Unlike booradley, i ain't making excuses of weight bs. Martinez ko Williams fair and square. Williams needs to find a new trainer.
