Pacquiao-Margarito was the worst broadcast by the team ever. I like the sound of the crowd and punches landing, so it's a shame I can't mute their asses. :dead
I remember Berto v Collazo being very bad.... for some reason Bob Pappa kept saying there was a knock down in the first round... i mean her literally MADE IT UP!!
I saw the replay of the KO and they had the excitement and passion of an exhausted sloth. Dreadful commentary by two of the worst commentators i've ever heard
I recently watched the HBO coverage of Margarito-Pacquaio and must say, that for once, the British Sky commentary team were absolutely brilliant compared to the HBO trash.
:good Steward was pathetic! "No, that was a right!" atsch Guess he forgot Sergio was a southpaw... too busy hanging off P-will's nut-sack to even see the shots SW was landing! Un-fkn-believable! :-(
atsch The fact Lampley wasn't present for said telecast might tarnish the quality of your post slightly.
I found Manny Steward's bias pretty surprising too. I really like and respect Manny as a boxing guru, and I do like his work on HBO, but I found his very clear preference for Williams to be a bit off-putting. Don't get me wrong, his preference was nowhere near as blinding and nuthugtastic as, say, Teddy Atlas's interracial manlove for Floyd, but it still sullied a great night for boxing a bit for me.
As much as i rate Emanuel Steward i find him to be a bit of a racist. He often sides with the black guy just for the sake of it
didn't hear the commentary, but I saw the second round and Martinez was repeatedly landing hard left on Williams who couldn't adapt if his life was hanging on it. It was a horrible fight by Williams who thought if he somewhow throws punches in bunches he will smother the other guy. Glad he got his unskilled arse handed to him!
One of HBO's biggest problems is they're not willing to accept boxing is an international sport not wholly dominated by Americans. They were clearly biased towards both Williams and Pavlik when they fought Martinez, and ignored the fact that a great new champion was emerging in front of them. Like when Pirog KOed Jacobs and they immediately gave Jacobs a loved up interview and tried to bury Pirog. Max Kellerman is terrible and has been his entire HBO career. They're trying to make him a replacement for Larry Merchant and it is clearly not working.
It was terrible. When Steward said Williams won the round I was like, what did he just say, did he? I must not of been watching closely enough. I was going through a thread I posted in a long time ago, not on here, and I found these comments strange... Manny Steward, regarding the Cotto-Pac fight, dont get me wrong I think he is a knowledgeable trainer, but these comments did raise my eyebrows when I saw them. One thing specifically that peak my interest, was the last part, I felt the fact that Manny overshoots the left hand, would be curtains for Cotto, particularly with the way Cotto leans in, puts too much weight on his lead foot.
