For all the Bhops haters... Nard would have turned back Martinez and PWill with the greatest of ease, and everyone would be calling them bums of the month and unworthy defenses. This is what happens when you don't have a true dominant MW on the scene :bbb

The same BHop who couldn't beat Jermain Taylor convincingly in 2 fights, and threw all of 12 punches a round against him?

You mean the old, old Hopkins who got robbed against the young lion Taylor, the same Taylor who would have beaten Pwill or Martinez easily?

At his best yes he probably would have.Hopkins is a great fighter no shame in losing to him.Neither of the two fighters brings anything to the table Bernard would not be able to deal with.Points or late stoppage wins for Hopkins.

So he couldn't beat Jermain Taylor in two tries but will be Sergio Martinez and/or Paul Williams...you obviously didn't put much thought into this.

Well, since Taylor didn't beat Ouma and Spinks easily, who both might very well lose to Martinez, I am not sold on the idea that Taylor beats Martinez easily. I like JT, he always was willing to fight the best but he doesn't have a single dominant win at the elite MW level.

Hopkins probably would have beatne PW and Martinez, so what? Hopkins is a true MW ATG, no shame in losing to him.

You haven't put much thought into this. That wasn't exactly Hopkins at his peak, was it? Regardless, Taylor stylistically had the style to give Hopkins trouble, and it's debatable whether he actually won at all.

There's no doubt that a '01-04 Hopkins [I'm thinking of the Trinidad/Allen III fights] beats both comfortably. Martinez couldn't sit there trying to potshot counter Hopkins from mid-range and slip all his punches. Nor could Williams forward with zero defense or zero-technique and beat him [any version of Hopkins post '97 beats Williams, it would look like the Pavlik fight only worse].

 at people bringing up the Jermain Taylor fights. He was weight-drained as **** and has done permanent damage because of it, and still deserved to win at least one of them.

Hopkins in his prime would lose two rounds at most combined against those two.

No I think he means the Bernard who after the Jones loss totally dominated the division for god knows how many years. He lost to Taylor in a close fight,so what it aint like Jermain is a bum.He was a much younger fighter. Those fights took more out of Jermain than Bernard.

Believe it or not, Jermain Taylor won, because he was able to shut Hopkins's offense down, thats why his output was so poor.

So what if a prime Hopkins might have been able to beat Martinez. That guy's long gone. Hagler and Monzon both beat that guy. Martinez? We'll never know.

Taylor would not have beaten Martinez easily or otherwise.
