The first 2 rounds where close obviously but my thing is you must assume Machida swept the 3rd on all judges cards. Thats meaning that with those first 2 rounds that Rampage won 5 of a possible 6 cards despite doing very little, Machida didnt very little 2 but it just seems weird he could get 5 out of 6 like that.
I thought Rampage edged out the first 2 rounds, the 1st one really close though. Nothing wrong with the judges decisions but maybe the system is wrong.
I'v always thought Rampage was a much classier guy than the image he likes to put forward. I think its pretty clear he shouldnt have won that match but then again I don't think he lost to Forrest and at the very least should have had a rematch.
The second round was close but while not a great deal happened I don't see how you could score the 1st for Jackson. He landed a total of 3 punches compaired to about a dozen strikes from Machida, the clinch was pretty much nuetral.
This fight is another example to prove the 10 point must system is shitty as hell with 15 minus only, damage in the whole fight should be the first priority(not per round) i prefer Pride system over 10 point
Machida won that fight by any measure and was close to finishing it in the third, Rampage never had Machida in any bother but he wins? atsch I suspect this is payback for the dodgy Griffin decision against Rampage a few years back. Just more UFC silliness.
Rampage took the 2nd on aggression, Machida took the 3rd for obvious reasons. The 1st could've gone either way. This fight showed the downfall of the elusive style against a guy with a good chin imo. Not that Machida fought badly, just the 1st round emphasises the difficulty in giving a round to Machida (which I personally did) in the judges eyes. Like someone said, you cant give Machida the fight because he won 1 round clearly Rematch please
Just very difficult to judge the fight round by round, when the only round that was clearly won/dominated was by the guy who didn't win the fight. I want to say sure, give Rampage credit for aggression, but then what about the smart mans aspect of the fight? Its one thing to run away, its another thing to move in such a way that you are looking for counters, controlling the distance to give yourself an advantageous angle to counter from. To me, it looked like Machida was controlling the distance in the same manner he usually does, he just didn't pull the trigger enough. Still, which is more valuable? Aggression or control? Effective Aggression may be worth a lot more, but Rampage's aggression really didn't amount to much. I think there really should be room for even rounds where neither guy does enough to take it from the other. Its like a draw is the end of the world or something.. I really thought it was a draw according to the UFC criteria, there being no real clear way to judge a 10-8 round.
On the other hand rounds 1 & 2 were there for the taking for Machida with Rampage content to try and throw haymakers. But Machida back tracked and was content to stall against the cage. Both him and Anderson seem to wait for the opponent to make mistakes, but if no significant opportunities present themselves then not much happens in terms of creating openings. It's not coincidence that Rampage aggression got the better of him in the 3rd and he gave Machida the opening to attack. Machida's power wasnt enough to test Rampages chin in the 1st 2 rounds, and it was Rampage who tried to force the issue of finishing the fight in the rounds. Nothing wrong with being patient, but if it was a Greg Jackson fighter and not Machida, he would have been criticised a little more harshly imo. I do think Machida won the 1st round, just. Im just trying to see it form the judges perspective
Why is there a debate over this? MAchida got robbed? He kicked Rampages legs about 10 times in rd one one hard kick to teh body and a hard knee. Rampage did **** but push Lyoto against the cage stomp his feet and get that weak takedown. Whats the issue? And then MAchida had a dominant 3rd round. Something is up with the UFC, Im starting to believe this ever since Kampmann threw that fight away against Shields.
What scares me is DAna has these judges in his pockets and can affect a decision with a wink. Did you see Machidas face when they called Rampage? It was like "Ohh no, not me" Even Rampage was like ok I have to soften this robbery a little by being humble. When was the last time RAmpage was this humble?? He was because he knew it was rigged and he wants to distance himself from the situation.
