Hopkins would have gladly fought Williams and Martinez as they are former WWs and small MWs who were both weighing in closer to the LMW division where they would both be more suited
1) Monzon 2) Robinson 3) Hagler 4) Greb 5) Cerdan 6) Ketchel 7) Walker 8) Tiger 9) Giardello 10) LaMotta and I could add several more. Name a middleweight Hopkins fought that even comes close to the ability of the fighters on the list.
Stop hating ***. Martinez in all reality is a pretty small middleweight. But to be honest, I'm not sure how easily Bernard would deal with Martinez. He couldn't deal with Jermain Taylor at 160 for crying out loud. Don't act like Hops schools Martinez. I'd favor him though.
Jermain Taylor fought a 40 year old BHop, then BHop moved up 2 weight classes afterwards to a more comfortable weight. The younger Hopkins would knock Martinez and Williams out.
Of course they are all great middleweights, but Hopkins is aswell. His H2H ability and dominance & longevity is key. He's top 5 along with Robinson, Greb, Hagler and Monzon.
LOL...Yeah he got beat by Roy Jones JR if that counts for anything. Oh wait...You mean the time he beat the old shot ass version of Roy Jones JR? Didn't Glen Johnson, and Antonio Tarver (ATG )beat him first? Your an idiot. Hopkins is/ was a great fighter, and I give the man his due for fighting this long, and staying in good shape. He's truly dedicated, and exceptional. He DOES NOT have the greatest of wins though to be called top 10 MW! He beats people like a small DLH, a small Trinidad, etc. He loses against JT, and Calzaghe ***** slapped him for 12 rounds. Martinez is a small MW though, and in his prime BHop would beat him. Now though, of course no way.
Time will treat Hopkins better especially after a few years of retirement. It sucks because you have guys criticizing him yet they don't even know that he used to be entertaining, idiotsatsch(same with Mayweather as he used to be much more offensive). I actually have Hopkins at top 5 too. Yes he fought in a weaker era but like you said, you can't ignore his dominance & H2H ability. IMO, Hagler is the greatest MW of all time and was the most skillful and I'm not just saying this because he's my fav MW.
Monzon, I'll give you. Hopkins beats Hagler, who couldn't convincingly dispose of welterweights and lost to one after that WW came out of a 3 year retirement. Marvin is the poster boy for overrated.
