Hopkins didnt fight him in 2002/2003ish when it could have been made, but Calzaghe didnt say **** he just remained silent like he always did. Hopkins made some big boi money later on fighting ODLH a fight later so maybe that was his plans. But if a 682 year old Hopkins did that to a fresher Calzaghe, a younger one would have schooled him. no doubt.

I personally think Hopkins would get credit for the win, but ultimatly, yes, it would be viewed as him beating a smaller guy moving up to face him. I dont think it would have been routine eather, he doesnt fit the Eastman, Allen, Joppy, Hakkar mold (I think Martinez beats all of them) so that alone would have set him apart from his peers in presenting Hopkins with a worthy challenger, and it would have been a good fight while it lasted and I think Hopkins would have recieved credit for beating a good fighter, but a smaller one. Martinez would then be forced to move down to 154 again and he would probably go on to be competetive with who was down there at the time (Mosley, Winky, Hoya, Vargas) Just IMO
Your scenario is plausible, but I don't think Sergio beats a prime Joppy and I would favor Eastman as well, he could be VERY dangerous when he was on. How do you think Sergio fares with the JMW's of that era? I don't think I like him in those fights either. Maybe he would get Winky on points if Wright stays in his shell.
Over time, revisionists would have us believe that Hopkins beat Taylor convincingly in both fights and was utterly robbed. Absolute nonsense. But their agenda to paint Hopkins as invincible means they can't bring themselves to admit both Taylor fights were extremely close, and in no way were they robberies.
He WAS robbed in the first fight, and clearly so. I think Taylor won the rematch. The main thing about those fights tho, is that Hops was OLD when they took place.

Hagler was robbed against Antuafermo in the first fight. I guess you can't learn that stuff looking at Boxrec and merely seeing a draw. The welterweight you name isn't exactly any welterweight, was it? It was Sugar Ray Leonard. One of the great welterweights, who then went through the weights and succeeded. A fair few thought Hagler won that fight two, but regardless, it was a close fight in which a guy with more technical skill than Roy Jones and a cast iron chin took shots. You think Hagler isn't going to land on Roy? You think Roy will take Hagler's best punches like they were nothing? You think Roy will be able to completely out-speed and out-box a guy with the skill of Hagler?

How the hell anyone score any of the rounds from 7-12 for Taylor in the first fight is beyond me. I thought Hops clearly won those the last time I watched it but I'll rewatch & score it before the year is up. I also tire of people saying nonsense such as Calzaghe gave him a "beating".
