20 seconds in, Steward says Williams is Neutralizing Martinez

In all honesty, I rewatched the fight several times already & I still don't see what Manny was watching...

Actually Martinez landed any where from 4/5 very solid overhand left's on Willy's face in that first rd & into the 2nd, Like it was an inevitable outcome. (w/hindsight of course)

 

You definitely got the feeling that Steward thought this fight was in the bag for Williams before it even started. All the talk about Williams' great chin before the fight is especially funny now .

 

I dont know if everyone has noticed, but Emmanuel Steward frequently does what the thread starters stating....
.......he concludes only after a few seconds into the fight who's dictating pace, tempo, and who's better got command of the proceedings.....

.......I'm mean really, you cant tell all that after only just a few seconds have gone by......

.....even the fight previous with Margarito vs Pacquiao, Steward very early in the contest had concluded something to the effect that Margarito was too big for Pacquiao and that he was'nt going to be able to move him.......

......the best thing to do is wait a few rounds before coming to how Steward sounds it like definite conclusions.atsch

Unlike some I read nothing into the comment... I think he was simply referring to apparent game plan that he was beginning to execute vs Martinez style... I don't think he was referencing anything that had taken place yet in the fight per se. Some people just read too much into things. The guy is a world class, decorated trainer.. give some respect to his knowledge I think.

 

He does that **** ALL THE ****ING TIME. Like 20 seconds into the fight, he tells you how he sees the fight going "At this point" ... which most of the time doesn't end up playing out like that at all. He may be a fantastic trainer, but his ability to perceive what's going inside the ring from the color commentary chair is desperately flawed.

 

Steward really likes Williams and the tall rangy style fighters. He is partial to those fighters.

 

Steward was probably on crack last night because he was watching a different fight. A fight where PW was dominating the action.

 

I agree that Steward does that a lot, but he's got nothing on George Foreman. Remember the Hopkins-Trinidad telecast? Foreman was riding Tito's nuts all the way up until the KO.

 

I often disagree with the commentating team's observations, but I do think that Williams, until the KO, was doing better against Martinez than in the first fight and they were taking note of that.

 

When I was watching the fight... I felt the same thing that P Dub looked in control ...but then Martinez nailed him repeatedly and I was like thinking "I hope this fight does not end early".

 

yeah, unlike most people, I actually like Kellerman usually, but his post-fight interviews were ****ing painful to watch

 

I counted the punches landed and Martinez outlanded Williams by far! HBO's punch stats sucks! Extremely biased! They were planning on cheated Martinez again and that's why Martinez knew he had to knock Williams out.
