Why didn't Williams tighten up his defense against that left hand?

All that was required was for Williams to keep his right hand up when he threw his left.......

......actually if you take a look at the KO shot, both Williams and Martinez are throwing their left hand, and both of them have their right hands down, uprotective of that left hand coming.......

.....it just happened that Martinez' shot was sharper and got there first......

Hes just not a smart fighter, never has been. He just throws a lot of punches and overwhelms most of his opponents. How many guys he he actually outsmarted?

The alarm bells should have been going into overdrive from the Cintron fight as he was tagging him in with a counter left hook as Williams was coming in, which wobbled him. I feel if Cintron had beat him, and hurt him (without a KO), Williams may have learnt and adjusted and would not have been KO in amateurish fashion against Martinez.

Makes perfect sense coming into a fight not learning how to block counter lefts from a right-handed fighter then fighting a south paw who tags him with his left hand power shots.

It's called 'open up with punches' for a reason. Unless you have Wright's defense and popping jab, you leave an opening one way or another, but with good handspeed/nice timing you don't allow the opponent to take advantage of it. These two opened up from the 1st bell as it was round 13, so there always was a chance of someone getting caught big, and Martinez spent the last 2 months preparing to land that very shot. If Williams dropped output for tighter defense, he would've given up the volume that convinced the judges the first time around. There's not a single other fighter on the planet who could've landed the same shot from the same angle, with the same power and same distance, and there was nothing Williams could do about it.

Williams is all arms and no defense he gets hit alot in every fight ,left hand or right hand it was probably going to be one or the other ,sooner or later he will become a punch drunk fighter.

At the top level, Williams probably has the worst defense in boxing.

But also notice Martinez's head is way down and in a position not to get hit with Paul's left while Paul left his head in the open!!!

All that show's me is that Paul felt he would try and walk through another professional boxers punch in order to land his!!!!!:-:)huh:-(

That's total disrespect for your craft and you pay the price for that!!!
