How is he protected? Beat the crap outta Kessler out of the gate who was projected to win the Super 6 tourney.

How could Andre Ward possibly be considered "protected" when his first fight in the Super Six was against the best supermiddleweight in the world and the man many were calling the all but uncrowned Super Six champion Mikkell Kessler?

    Close thread.

But I think Ward have more skills with that then Bika. He can do it more accurate so not everyone can notice that.

No way. You can't be classed as a protected fighter if you're in a tournament like this.

You can only make a case that there is one protected fighter of the originals or replacements in the Super Six, and that is Andre Dirrell.

Ward, protected? I don't think you can begin to make that argument when you look at his resume.

you cant condemn ward for having home fights just because his promoter managed to get that done.

and how the hell can ward be 'protected' when he entered the super 6 relatively unknown and had his first fight against mikkel kessler, the favourite to win the whole damn thing before it had started?

He WAS protected in his super six fights.

I want to see Ward fight without his chosen ref. and not in Oakland. That would be cool.

He good - no doubt - but he has been protected untill now.

if that's sour grapes because kessler got beat - and he did get beat by the better fighter - then that's bad form considering how often kessler has had home turf fighting SMW contenders before the calzaghe fight....

He does get hit but the thing is that hs defense is so good that rarely do we see him take shots flush. I remember Miranda & Green(I don't remember Kessler landing as cleanly as they did) connecting with a good shot or two on him and Ward was fine. I'm not a fan anymore of him but I gotta respect his skills.

man its so funny, ward comes in the tournament as probably the least heralded fighter out of all the competitors next to taylor. then the next thing you know he shocks the world by beating the living **** out of the favorite to win the tournament with ease and NOW all of a sudden the tournament was created in wards favor?? ****ing ESB man, **** never gets old.

I despise Andre Ward but I can't say he is protected. It was Dr. Shaw hi who pulled out of his fight and the guy fought one of the tournament favourites (Kessler) in only his 20th fight. That's pretty good going.
