Ricky Hatton vs Junior Witter

Witter wasn't comfortable with the pressure Bradley put on him.

Hatton was intense on his day and would have wore Witter down in around 10 i'd say.

 

Hard to say, since each man's style would seem to pose problems for the other.

You would probably have to lean towards a prime Hatton over a prime Witter though, given his superior in-ring accomplishments.

 

The styles are so different, it is down to who on the night to me.

 

For me the only argument for Hatton is that he is simply betrter. Because that's what everybody used to say, 'oh even if he is ducking him, he'd beat Witter anyway cos he's on another level to him', and it might be true, might not be though. In hindsight Witter matches up very well here, from a stylistic perspective, he uses power-punches on the counter and likes his opponents to come to fight. That's how Hatton got ****ed up in his two losses. But I do agree that if a fighter is simply on another level to his opponent he overcomes a stylistic disadvantage, it happens a lot. Is Hatton on another level to Witter though?

If he is he is, but is he? Seriously, I'm not so sure.

 

Hatton. Witters rep as a power puncher isn't warranted in world class.

I love it when people include 'cuts' in their argument, it shows how much they're reaching...

You can't fight a pressure fighter like Hatton the way Witter would. He's easy to counter over the top and would get hustled on the inside with bodyshots and uppercuts. Junior wouldn't have enough to back Hatton up either, don't think he has anymore power then someone like Urango. He would be tripping over his feet and looking really uncomfortable en route to being stopped or decisioned.

 

Urango? Not the best example since Hatton came up for air after 6 rounds from a body shot and held for the rest of the fight. Besides its completely different, the raw power might be in Urango's favour but the point is he has zero counterpunching skill, or really any ability to throw any kind of shot with subtlety. Even Hatton could diffuse that type of punching and he's not a defensive genius. Urango thrown a straight punch in his life?

I see the logic in both winning to be honest, which is why its so disapointing it never happened.

 

As Slip says, going for cuts is usually a sign that the picker isn't confident his mans Plan A or Plan B is going to to good enough,

 

Hatton ducking him was a fair indication he wasn't that confident his Plan A would work either and it would be presumptuous to suggest he ever had Plan B

 

Hatton prime would smash Witter to bits inside 6.

 

Horrible boring fight fight . Basically a wrestling match Hatton with a clear win on points
