Dont feel sorry for him at all.

If I win the lottery, bag in 20mil, I would have to be a complete idiot to spend all those 20mil, id have no one else to blame but myself.

How hard is it to sit down for 2 minutes, here's 10mil, thats for my spending money, here's 5 mil, lets use that to pay promoters, taxes, whatever, here's another 5mil, I will not touch that under any circumstances, thats my pension money.

    Stupidity.

I hate to hear about boxers who after there careers are broke and homeless. That's why I can't knock any boxer for trying to get as much money as they can boxing always has been and always will be a business first.

Why is that Arums fault? Did he have to give money to the leeches, buy a custom Mercedes, and have gold chains and fur coats and gamble? Nope. Its called budgeting your life and saving your money, not spending it recklessly with no reguard for your future..

Gerry cooney already has one set up, but there should be a worldwide organisation to help retired boxers. Every boxer should have some security when they retire like the guarantee of a job or financial and medical help if they really need it and have fallen on hard times

Iran Barkley is one of my favorite warriors. Barkley, came from a huge family and took care of all of them and his friends. What gets at me is his own niece changed the locks on the door of his own Mothers house. I agree a pension plan should be mandatory for boxers especially former world champions.

Seeing and reading things like this makes you understand why Floyd is the way he is.

Exactly. It's a shame that this happens to fighters. Other sports do not let this happen to their athletes. What boxing needs is a centralized federal organization and a strong union - precisely the things that lead to improvements for the athletes in other sports.

These guys are not broke because they didnt earn enough, their broke because they spent it all. It doesnt matter whether they bag 100mil or 10mil, its the sheer lack of basic common sense.

The human is self-destructive by nature. It's always there in the subconscious, waiting to kick in. That's why some people smoke, drink, do drugs, eat junk food, have unsafe sex with strangers or whatever it is.

Boxers make a living out of punching others and getting punched back. Pretty self-destructive don't you think? And what happens when they finally get a lot of money? They keep on self-destructing by spending it all on useless things.

That's my take. (I would have liked to make it clearer, but my english isn't #1)

I wish Barkley the best of luck.

It is the same people on this board who always make a huge stink about these old guys coming back to fight but seriously what else are they supposed to do?

You can't blame a guy who had millions for not being able to wrap his head around being a painter. Some might, but I can't say for sure I would. Regardless it is a damn shame.

    Beggars can't be choosers.

  13. How can't someone help him get him land decent work or something. I never get these stories.

If Barkley were where im from we could get him a job easy and some place to stay.

Not too long ago he was recording expert village tutorial videos training young fighters ...

It's a sad story. But why is it oft times repeated, I don't really get why boxers fall for the same trap over and over again. Fighter gets out of poverty, earns tons of cash, pisses it all away on booze, chicks, drugs, casinos, friends, possés, runs out of money, tries to survive on a daily basis but never really gets his bearings back--probably because the shock is so jarring that nobody can really grasp the brutality of having everything taken away from you.

I really hope there's a union or retirees association or something for boxers that would take care of unfortunate turns like this.
