Manny Pacquiao is the best fighter on the planet, a supercool serial killer eating up divisions and aiming ever higher. But at the end of the day, he's just another fighter fighting twice a year. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best boxer on the planet, the controversial bad boy who gets away with it using his skills. But at the end of the day, he's just another boxer boxing once a year. And Mayweather-Pacquiao is the best fight available on paper producing the most money and attention in the sport today, but at the end of the day, it's just another top level fight, and dozens and dozens happen every year.

And boy I'm glad Sergio Maravilla Martinez rained on the Floyd-Pac parade, because ever since the difficulties became public the fanboys of the two sucked all the air out of these boards and turned the forums into a whorezone (lol). And along comes this tremendous human being, outside of all the hype and promotional/network backing and explodes into the big picture, becoming a potential rival to both famed fighters showing there's a lot more than just a single match-up.

And at the end of the day, Sergio Martinez is also just another fighter, but he just gave boxing the long awaited breather and the clean space to freely discuss what's upcoming for real, and not a fantasy match. And better suck in that fresh air into your lungs, because you'll need it as we're approaching the best weekend of boxing for quite some time with Hasegawa-Burgos, Abraham-Froch, Ward-Bika, Marquez-Katsidis, and many, many more!

Thanks God for you Maravilla! :happy

Yes it is good for boxing but IMO it would have been better if Williams had won because he would have no problem coming down to 147 to fight either PBF or Pac. We all know Martinez can't get lower than 155 so that means no fight with either PBF or Pac.

This proves that boxing will continue with or without Mayweather. Martinez victory hurts Mayweather more than anybody else and I'm glad it happened.

Couldnt possibly agree more. I waited and waited for something that would shut people up about Floyd and Pac.

At least came the guy to do it. Respect to Martinez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great thread!

:huh Why does it hurt PBF and not Pac? Both could be possible opponents for him but Martinez can't get down below 155.

Why would it be better if the loser of the fight won? He lost both of those fights for a reason.
I swear ESB has turned into a damn popularity contest

First off Williams didn't lose the first fight. It would have been better because if the PBF-Pac fight couldn't be made Williams would be the best opponent available for either fighter because he can make 147 and Martinez can't:deal Why is this so hard to understand?

IMO it hurts PBF more because of his inactivity combined with Martinez victory and future victories will keep demoting Floyd down the P4P list. What I meant by "hurt" was public/press perception.

Even if Paul had won, neither Pac nor PBF would have fought him, so what difference does that make?

Big fan of Serge, hope he keeps on going!
