Because Duran was a lightweight, and SRL was a welterweight. One would expect a welterweight to beat another welterweight, which Leanard did against Hearns, and beating Hagler when he did was also impressive. But one also has to look at their entire body of work. Leonard only fought about 40 fights, while Duran fought well over 100, and was 72-1 prior to moving up to welterweight to face new challenges. So Duran defended his title far more times than SRL did. These all count too you know, it's not just beating one or two fighters that put you on this type of list, it's your whole body of work. Also when they fought in their primes Duran won. Now think of this Duran beat the 2nd best welterweight in history when they were both in their primes. The fact that Leonard avenged this defeat is admirable, but that still doesn't diminish what Duran did. And as an added bonus Duran went on to beat Davey Moore, and Iran Barkley, the same Barkley who beat Hearns twice, and he did this in his late 30's. And while Duran lost to Hearns, and beat Barkley one has to remember both were 6'1" and he was 5' 7" so both had a huge, huge size advantage over him, far more than Margo had over Pac.
Thruthfully, I don't think there's much he could do to ever get to top 5, but top 10's not out of the question. As for Floyd if Pac wants to crack the top 10, the road passes through Floyd in some fashion or another. Unless Pac wants to go up in weight, and that's something they appear not to want to do.
He can be if he beat Floyd at 147 or Martinez at 154. He needs only one guy. He beats Bradley esp if Tim becomes a star. And wins a farewell or a tuneup with JMM. Just for formality and to add the final garnish. Then hes Top 5.
Hard to say. Everyone wants to put any fighter they like in the top 5 ATG ranking. Pacman is great, but the question is does he qualify for top 5 boxer of all time? That is a pretty big accomplishment. Something beating the last 5 guys he fought which 3 were stopped in their last 2 fights would not do.Somehow being top 20 ATG is not that great anymore.
Maybe to you he would be, but not to me. For him to be top 5 he has to pass either Duran, Langford, Greb, Louis or Ali, SRR, Armstrong, so which of these three fighters is he going to jump over and why?
if he takes the right fights he is definitly on his way even without floyd although top 5 is a reach atg top 20 definitly
I know. Hey he's only top 20 and everyones ahead of him are dead. PAc beats Floyd impressively GOAT will be argued with PAcs name. Bank on that.
Ali, Duran, Greb (has anyone seen this guy fight Except for Bill GAllo whos ranked PAc ahead of these guys he has seen NOW). Possibly Armstrong since he is being compared to him now and Steward says PAcs even better. LAngford is top 10 I dont see him in top 5s. Now imagine PAc beating Floyd and then a peak Bradley. Yes He surpasses alot of People.
Well we can agree to disagree. I could see him possibly making the top 10 and that would be it, and in my opinion at least, he's not going to surpass Langford. And it's a bit of shame that when enough time and years go by the Dempsey's of the world get left behind because people haven't seen them fight. But others who have, rate them very highly and yet we discard their views simply because they are no longer around to defend them, and it's because of these tendencies that I tend to look at the IBRO for their ratings as they did extensive research on all the fighters they ranked. Monte Cox also has an excellent website as well.
