Am I the only person who thought Duran dominated the first and Leonard dominated the second. Don't think either fight was close but many seem to claim otherwise

I don't agree with the theory that Leonard "fought Duran's fight". And maybe I didn't articulate my thoughts correctly. Leonard thought he could beat Duran that way and fought accordingly. What I mean is, Duran dictated the fight and imposed his will on Leonard.
For me, this fight and Pryor-Arguello I were the most intense fights I've ever seen. More clean punches landed in Pryor - Arguello I, but I think the intensity of the infighting in Duran - Leonard was even more physically demanding.

Hopefully we can all agree what a tremendous effort it was by both fighters. I don't know how you could watch this fight and not have huge admiration for both fighters.

Oh yeh i agree with yer:yep give me the yanks anyday for putting the excitment into it when it comes to commentary of the cuff:lol: Col Bob Sanders is another great yank commentator, jeezus he's near on bursting a blood vessel but he's as blind as they come sometimes & his take on the Chavez/Taylor 1 fight was shocking in it's bias towards Taylor:scaredas:

All i seemed to here at the end of every round was "Thats another round for Taylor!!! ANOTHER ROUND FOR TAYLOR!!!!

I wouldn't. Hagler/Hearns had a special electricity which not many fights can match. They were both prime and cocky and thought they could knock the other one out. It was a unique fight. When I say cocky I say it in a good way. They had a good confidence then and they both had won their last several fights.

Ray fought that way from the get go. Watch the beginning of the first fight and the second fight. Ray started off flat footed in the first fight. Duran didn't dictate that.

Leonard did say he fought Duran's fight and that he wanted to beat Duran at his own game. He said " I tried to beat that man at his own game and I almost did it". And yes Ray was green. Later he fought his fights and didn't fall into his opponents fights because they insulted his wife or any other reason.

great effort by both, but Ray fought Duran in the trenches. He didn't have to, the second fight proves it.

the fight was close as leonard seemed to be frustrated at the way duran was clutching and throwing wild punches but i think leonard did enough to retain the title:think

Duran wanted the fight and pointed to it, whereas Leonard had to fight his top challenger when he was still maturing as a fighter.
