$5 million ...

How many of us will ever see 5 million in their entire life time.

Get a freaking job.
Yes I said it, you cant box so go do something else. Dont care is its $8 and hour or $12 an hour... its better than $0 and hour.

But alas,
yes. Pity the greedy wont give him some type of job. **** those people who got $$$$ off him arent willing to give a job out...

You sure they wouldn’t give him any kind of job?

Or is he too proud to ask help from them.

a fund is for fighters who fought hard and didn't reach this level and earn 5 million. This guy won 3 world titles and fought legends Duran and Hearns. Set up a fund for a guy who earned 5 million in his career and still complains that he was somehow used by Bob Arum? Arum gave him the chance to fight and Barkley said so in numerous post fight interviews. Come on. How ironic is it that Hearns and Duran the two greats he fought also declared bankruptsy. I say that is just dumb money management, especially by Duran and Hearns who made many many millions each.
The money Hearns and Duran got for fighting each other was about 2 million each. Most people could make a good living on the risiduals of that. I am not sure I feel that sorry for guys who won titles and lived the high life and then blew it all. I don't want anyone to be homeless at all and I want everyone to do well but they sure were not responsible is my point.
Many people on the street now never earned millions and held multi titles only to blow all that money. Which one of us will ever be icons like Hearns and Duran. Even Barkley had a good career, but he was not great like Duran and Hearns but it doesn't matter he blew his money. Another ironic thing is I always thought Duran and Hearns were the nicest of the fab four as far as givingand look where it got them with no money. Being nice isn't always the best thing when you have money.

I think a lot of you are missing the point. Yes he had millions of dollars and yes he lost all of it. A lot of was the result of being careless with his money. But, like so many boxers, he was trained in fighting not finances. He was a young man who came from nothing and suddenly had more money than he knew what to do with. He talks about how he should have got paid more, but he could have made 20 mil and he still would be broke today. There should be more resources available to fighters to prevent these things from happening. Is a fighter losing his money any different from say an investor losing his money? I would say yes, because a fighter stands to lose a lot more than just money. Maybe he shouldnt be given a pension, but he could be helped out by the millionaires in the sport who once benefited from his putting his life on the line. At least help the man get his life back on track.

It is hard to feel sorry for a guy who had 5 million dollars and then says he was not paid enough or that Leonard should have fought him and ducked him. I never heard much clamor for a Barkley/Leonard fight. Sure help him and I think they should but you can bet he would not appreciate it as he never appreciated anything Arum or other people did for him since he says he was never paid enough. Who did he think he was? Hearns or Duran? He fought them and did well against them but they beat some greats and won multiple titles years before they knew his name. Who teached Marvin Hagler or Leonard how to manage money? Larry Holmes. Any of us? I agree with helping anyone but Barkleys attitude is sort of bitter as tho he was one of the fab 4 and he was ripped off and that is why he is not doing well. 5 million dollars invested well and he would be fine. I wish he would have invested well. I would have liked nothing more than to see a rich Barkley. He actually thought he was as good as Hearns Duran Leonard Hagler and that the money would keep coming. He was not as good as they were and somehow he still believes he is a legend like they are and he was ripped off. I thought he was given many chances to win titles when other guys could have gotten the chance.

sugar ray leonard told Iran Barkley to his face that he didn't want to fight him. I've seen leonard recount that moment on his espn classic series, so Iran isn't lying.

i'm pretty sure leonard told Iran that he straight up didn't want to fight him and proceeded to praise him by saying something along the lines of "I saw what you did to tommy hearns," and then he laughed about it and told bert sugar and brian kenny that Iran Barkley was a really rough, tough guy and not someone he would have wanted to fight at middleweight, all the while praising him. another funny thing that happened, was later on in the show they had tommy hearns on. you could still sense a little bad blood on hearns' part and he asked ray for a third fight, I **** you not.

He could have hired someone to help him. Thats what most people do, they hire someone who is a professional in setting up your future for you. Instead he chose to invest in furs and jewelry. Typical really, because when the money is coming in, they think it will never end.
