This is the Micky Ward biography from which the upcoming film The Fighter was adapted.

    Has anybody here read it?

I almost picked it up today, and am probably going back to the bookstore tomorrow anyway. If it's well-liked by the majority here it will probably swing the balance.

No, I haven't read it, but I would like to. Ward was a great warrior and his personal story is interesting, but no way his life was as hard, as say Matthew Saad Muhammad. Now that is a life story that would make a great movie. Unfortunately, the main stream in America are more interested in the story of a white fighter, than an african american from the ghetto. Plus, Saad was a relevant fighter too long ago to make a movie about him now, it would have been relevant back in the '80's. People still remember Ward.

I've read it, great read you really get a feel for the guy and the stuff he went through with his brother.

His family do not come across very well to be honest, especially his mother if I recall

So you'd like to see a movie about Saad Muhammad, but you think it won't happen because Americans only want to see films about white men, and then you say that it's too late to make a movie about him? :huh

It was in Atlantic city and Mickey was about 18 pounds lighter then his opponent who was actually subbed in that night as the original opponent fell out at the last moment and Mickey didn't want to bail out on the fight as it was televised on ESPN-it was a bad move on both Mickey and his manager to go along with that bout and he took a pretty bad beating.
