Even the SRL Leonard on the second fight, Floyd is still the better, smarter boxer. Liek I said, Duran and Floyds a tossup just because Duran does have underrated defense and great at throwing feints, fast hands, damn great fighter in his own right.

Sorry Marnoff, with all due respect, this to me this is a lame agrument. The version of SRL that Duran beat was 27-0 and had TKO wins over Floyd Mayweather (how ironic is that) and Wilfred Benitez among others.

In no way shape or form was Leonard, not a great fighter at the time they fought, this is precisely why some call this the greatest win by a boxer ever. It was precisely because Leonard was in his prime and if anything, Duran was past prime.

True. Too often people can't judge historical fighters without letting bias get involved. Leonard was the greater fighter, but I agree that Floyd was definitely the smarter boxer at that stage.

One of the reasons I like Floyd over Duran is because of that second fight (which people like to make excuses for and act as if it never happened). Duran would have given Floyd fits, but Floyd would be able to keep his pace going for twelve (or fifteen) hard rounds and give Duran a ton of problems as well.... Just a fantasy fight I'd have loved to watch.

To have an top 50-100 ATG list is flawed in my view, here's the thing. What happens when a guy breaks into the list? What, the guy who was 50th or 100 is no longer an ATG and status is diminished/downgraded because some contemporary fighter took his spot?
I just group fighters in terms of greatness, mainly based on what my eyes see in the ring and in that regard Pacquiao is in the top bracket no doubt.

Might want to throw a thread up in the Classic section and see where it goes.

When did I say Leonard wasn't a great fighter at the time he fought Duran? I said it was the loss to Duran that developed Leonard into the "Complete Leonard" that we have come to know. As I stated, I feel the loss to Duran was the best thing that ever happened to Leonard. He became a much better fighter after that. You misinterpreted my post for no apparent reason, which is the only lame thing about this.

As for putting up a thread in Classic, it's been done to death and I've been in the discussions.
