The hate Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor is getting lately is B******T (video added)

Truth be told, he never really looked the same after the Hopkins and Winky fights.

He had moments against Pavlik, and looked ready to humiliate Froch, but his stamina and lack of ring smarts failed him, big time.

Had he waited 2 years before he fought for the title, he might still be around today.

 

He beat boxing legend Bernard Hopkins not once but twice. That's a huge accomplishment.

 

Could you in your life time ever do what Taylor has done in the sport of boxing??????

 

No, but it's not my status as a "great" fighter that is being debated.

 

Not when both of those wins were the product of boxing politics, in which he was outlanded in both, and nearly stopped at the end of the 1st fight.

 

i hated taylor at first because i saw that hbo was just breeding him to be their next cash cow for the middleweight division since they thought hopkins would make due on his promise to retire at 40. but that was not taylor's fault, and unlike legitimate frauds and cowards, like calzaghe, he was man enough to give hopkins a rematch instead of walk away with a bull**** win. he also, unlike frauds like calzaghe and strum, was a true champion defending his belts against the best competition. would either of the previous frauds have fought pavlik, after his brutal KO's that lead to his bout with taylor? cal passed on kelly and dawson to fight jones. taylor, in the same shoes, would've fought all 3.

 

had he just put kelly away in the second round, kelly would probably be no more than a blip in the radar and jermain may still have the strap. honestly, i would love to see the taylor that beat bhop against sergio. i think that would be a good fight. no prediction there, just a good fight.

 

Martinez would box the living **** out of JT. If JT could not KO Spinks, and looked awful in a split decison win against him, then Sergio, who is slicker, faster, and much stronger, would really do a number on him.

 

He gets points for bravery, no question.

 

he did just fine against a slick, crafty fighter in bhop. he did just fine against winky. i think your selling him short in that fight. paul williams makes jermain taylor look like a defensive wizard.

sergio may win. i'm not saying he wont but i think it would be a good scrap.

 

I was a very big fan of Jermaine. And after he beat Hopkins twice, I was definately singing his praises. That is until I watched his fight with Winky. Never have I yelled at a TV screen during a fight, until I saw that one. I realized the guy had a boxing IQ of a grape. He was to big and strong for Wright. He should have beaten Winky down. Hell, I had never seen Wright's face so beaten up after a fight until I saw that one. But he damn near gave the fight away.

Did just fine?? Really? Then why was he outlanded, bloodied, and nearly stopped at one point, while BHOp had not a scratch on him??

Watch those fights with the sound off, and you will see that JT was rendered ineffective by the mid point of both fights. Everytime he threw a punch, Lampley would scream at the top of his lungs.

He might have a few rounds against Sergio, but he winds up getting stopped in rather devastating fashion.

He just was never really that good.:deal

 

Bottom line, JT beat Hopkins twice, gutted out a draw against a great version of Winky Wright, beat Lacy, Spinks, Ouma, Marquez, Joppy who are good fighters and he deserved everything he got. I agree he had flaws and many of them became more pronounced when he left Pat Burns, but he accomplished more than 99% of fighters will in their career. To be honest, I'm not sure he couldn't come back and retake the MW division right now, and he has not had his last fight regardless. He needs to be at MW and he needs to trainer harder and more completely, but rest assured you haven't heard the last from JT.

 

Even in his 3 knockout losses:

!) He dropped Pavlik, almost had him out of the fight, and was up on the cards at the time of the knockout.

2) He dropped Froch and was close to even with him on the cards up until the final round

3) He won a number of rounds against Abraham

He still had the skills to hang with the very best, but his chin let him down. It's hard to say how he'd fair if he came back, but you have to take into account that those 3 are arguably the 3 heaviest hitters in the middleweight/supermiddleweight divisions. If he feels recovered, I think he'd give people some tough fights. I think that he would've gave Ward and Dirrell all kinds of problems, had he continued on, because they don't really have much in the way of punching power to keep Jermaine honest.

 

I just hated him when he was champ. It's like he turned into a jerk overnight caring about. Pavlik KOing him humbled him and made him fun to watch again. Pavlik kind of acted the same way thumbing his nose at the Super Six until he got schooled by Martinez.
