To stay completely silent and hope that people just forget about this fight? I respect both fighters and I don't want to bash Floyd, but how do Mayweather's hardcore fans see this? If he just doesn't say a word until Pac's next fight is announced, you would be ok with that? First round of negotiations, both camps talked a lot to the media. Second round, both camps kept quiet in the hope that it would get finalized. It didn't and Floyd denied that any negotiation took place. Now there is a third opportunity to make the fight, Pac's camp is just asking for confirmation that Floyd would be interested in negotiating. So far nothing, and I predict that he will stay silent until Top Rank move on to a new opponent. Wouldn't it be better if Floyd just released a statement saying: 1. We will try to negotiate again. or 2. Manny did not meet the drug test policy requirements, no fight. or 3. I am dealing with personal problems will take time off or even say i'm retired for good. 4. I have had a sex change operation. Anything will do, it's better then ignoring that the biggest fight in decades can be made for next year. He hasn't said anything in months, aside from some vague references in one or two hip-hop radio interviews. Don't his fans deserve better?
no im content with floyd taking care of his bussiness outside the ring.i think he will fight manny in 2011.all this crap about people needing explanations about this that and the other is bull ****.mayweather fans are ride or die so the only people with poblems are his haters.i want them to fight just like everyone else and i believe they will.
His strategy is to get his hunger for the sport back, get the green light from big Floyd and for Pacquiao to fade.
He can just say this, and indicate that he won't fight until it clears up. But he won't say this because, IMO, as soon as Pac has an opponent Floyd will get his hunger back and announce a fight for the spring. That's never going to happen (according to big Floyd himself) and Pac won't fade for a few years, by that time Mayweather will be too old or in jail.
It would only be better for Floyd haters. Or maybe I'm just old school, but I don't have to hear a statement from Floyd every time his name is mentioned, to be a fan. He will respond when he chooses, why lose sleep or give someone this much attention if you believe he'll be silent or disappoint you? I've never understood why people who aren't his fans or 'hardcore fans' care about what he does so much.... Why do you care?
personally i think hes doing what he did with the welterweight division, Just take a step out and let the competition beat out each other then come back and claim your the best cause "aint none of them beat me".
Because it shows some willingness to make the fight, if he stays quiet he is ignoring it completely. It would help his image too, which is taking a beating. Is Top Rank wrong to say that they are reaching out and that Mayweather is their #1 target? Maybe they aren't beeing sincere, but putting your head in the sand won't help matters. Floyd is saying no to the fight by saying nothing at all. Even Elerbe can just say we are discussing things, that's all. He can at least make an excuse so we can move on from this topic.
TS has very good points. You can't blame the media for calling Floyd a ducker or a coward with the way he is acting now.
Why does he have to speak when you all want him to? He's his own boss, he can't conduct business like he wants? It's been working for him thus far in his career.... Manny just fought this month, Floyd has less than a month before Manny's on to the next opponent? Manny's not agreed to the blood testing, (until now if you believe his statement on taking tests and willing to do so before the 6th round) and they've been at it for a year. Why now that Manny has decided to agree Floyd has less than a month? Can't he ponder some time as well?
Saying nothing at all can say a thousand words. Where the ones trying to figure him out not the other way around. Why we wait to see his next move, we speculate, assume and pass judgement on the unknown. At the moment he's the one in control because he knows what's on our minds but we don't know what's on his. One of the 48 laws of power is to know the moves of your enemy but keep yours concealed. But if he happens to go to jail for some years, then none of the above matters.
Won't work this time, casual fans didn't demand that he fight Cotto/Margarito/Mosley in 2008. If he doesn't fight Pacquiao he will never live it down. When they mention his name this topic will be the first to come up. I'm sure he doesn't care though.
