Pacquiao purposefully drained himself to avoid slick fighters?

Fair enough. But let us play Devil's Advocate. Let us say Pac faced Nate Campbell, Judah and PBF. It is reasonable to say he beats Nate Campbell, loses once to Judah but beats him in rematch, draws and SD with PBF. Pac is now called the Afro-cutioner. Senor Vivek Wallace, Aztecas, Freddy-Wak and others would then be arguing that Pac dodged tough Latino fighters because he would be hunted down and body shot till poop comes out of his ass. He is not on steroids, but he paid Ariza to jump weight to dodge the Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.

IT IS A FCKNG DUMB theory as you can see. It is a no win situation. IF YOU KNOW anything about boxing, MAB, EM and JMM is by FAR the roughest road you could have possibly taken if you where fighting in the 120 range in the 2000s. That is three HoF, possible ATGs. And he fought them at least twice!!!

The second point is the contradictory and ever changing argument. He is on PEDs. When that went nowhere, now he is not on PEDs but draining himself. How did that fcking change overnight!!?? Because BHop said so? You guys are like Limbaugh's Lemmings. You guys change your view based on what is hot right now. You change argument when it is convenient no matter if it is contradictory or are based on rumors and opinion. And worst yet, you willingly mistake it that those are facts.

Like I said, I would give you Nate Campbell. Hell I will even give you Mosley 2008. Can you honestly say that is better than the 3 Mexicans? Even then it is reasonable to say that Pac would have the same record : 5-1-1.

Not to say Vivek has a confused view. He keeps saying it is not about race, yet his article is based on "slick black fighters" theory and NOT "slick fighters". Vivek is another black writer pre-occupied with race when it suits him best. His views offers nothing new and lack actual intellectual rigor. It is just another rumor mongering ****** - like a 16 year old teenager.

Funny thing is, I used to enjoy reading some of his work.

I don't know, he probably replaced Greg Leon as Floyd's biggest spin master among internet boxing writers. I wouldn't even be surprised if Vivek is actually flattered by that statement.

Not sure who "you guys" are. But, my post is simply stating that an argument can effectively be made that he was steered away from certain styles of fighters. If these happen to fighters of African descent...so be it. But, it's about the STYLES more than anything. Not to mention, people who've formerly helped to shape his career, in the earlier part, have stated this.

As far as the argument that he would've been dodging Latin fighters, by fighting some slick opponents of African descent...I doubt it. He fought at least 3 of the ATG great Latin fighters. So, varying up his opposition would not have been viewed as negative. After all, the goal would have been to make him a more well rounded fighter. However, had he not effectively been able to make that transition, it would've hampered his career. That's where the risk vs reward factor comes in. And a fair argument can be made that moving away from a proven formula could've very well been viewed as too risky (when compared to the reward), by his handlers.

Now maybe that means nothing. Perhaps, he's fully prepared for the slickness and/or caginess of some of he best of fighters that employ this style, without ever having faced a single one. And if he dominates this style, as easily as he does the plodding and brawling opponents, his detractors will have no choice but to sing his praises. But, if he fails at doing so, and is made to like an amateur when he is in there with a fighter who makes him think carefully about his next move and show him angles and movement he's never seen, that argument may prove valid.

A great post. One that perfectly shows how a person's resume can be easily scrutinized and maginified to create a non-existent issue.
