Nice video. I thought I remember reading that someone offered that same thing for the Holmes fight and Ali turned it down. Maybe the story was mixed up when I heard it.

Ali accused Liston's corner of being dirty and trying to blind him almost as soon as the fight had finished. That was his take on it, I'm not convinced it is true at all.
Angelo Dundee said at the time that it was probably just an accident, some ringsider reporters actually thought Dundee himself had caused it accidentally.
Liston's corner may have used liniment on Liston's shoulder (if the injury existed) or something on his cut cheek that may have got in Clay's eyes.
The idea that Liston's corner were guilty of foul play originated with Ali, and it's not the first or last time some fighter had burning eyes and chose to blame the other fighter/corner.

Ali was a great story teller and everything he says needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Even by the standards of people in boxing, Ali had a vivid imagination.

Foreman for his part, claims he was drugged in Zaire, and he implicates his own training Dick Saddler in the conspiracy.

Boxing is so full of bullshitters it's hard to know what to believe.

Dundee till this day says the he believes it was not Liston or his corners fault. But I personally think he is saying that out of respect for Liston

Foreman believED that Saddler was drugging him. But today he knows its nonsense.

And Ali is not much of a bullshitter. He will only tell tales and half-truths for a good cause, not something like implicating a dead legendary fighter of wrongdoing. Especially at that age.

Well, Foreman as recently as 2003 was still sticking by the "I was drugged" story, so who knows what to believe. He probably says different things to different people.

I'm not saying Ali doesn't BELIEVE that Liston's corner blinded him, I'm saying whatever Ali thinks or believes doesn't necessarily make it true.
Ali accused all sorts of people of all sorts of things throughout his career, and was sometimes inconsistent with it. He believed some crazy bull**** that's no secret. I even saw him deny that he had any white friends in a 70s interview when quizzed about his muddled religious racist beliefs. He wasn't the brightest spark.
Then again, at least he's been consistent with his accusations against Liston. But some boxers are always quick to make those types of accusations and stick to them.

Ali is a bullshitter, or at least someone who makes stuff up or believe without evidence . Dundee is a bullshitter too, so I'm not saying what he says must be right either.

Point is, these are just stories and half-baked beliefs at best, not real INSIGHT as you suggested.

He wasn't the brightest spark? Ali stood for an entire movement, and he was set up by Parkinson on the talk show to give an explanation to all the contradictions in his life. And he handled it like he was supposed to. Of course he had white friends, but they way the question was being asked, he would have looked worse by saying he did have white friends. He was a very religious man. And did not want to compromise the entire Nation of Islam by admitting to that contradiction. And he may have had white friends, but other than Dundee, none of them were nearly as close to him as his non white friends. He goes on to answer "A friend will take a bullet for me without hesitation, and I would feel the same for him." He wasn't really close to any white people like that at the time, so he created his own context of what a friend is when answering that question, because he was a media genius. And armchair critics like you pertaining to the situation, can't think deeper into the situation than "no way, but he DID have white friends, he LIED".

If Ali were interviewed today, he would say he has white friends, and that he always has. But the interview you speak of is in 1970, only TWO years after Martin Luther King got shot. The context of race and racism at the time is a LOT different than today.

Plus, remember how long ago this interview was.

"A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.”

This is so disrespectful to his legacy and what he has done, it is not even funny. He didn't stand for anything except his own promotion? Who the hell are you to say that? Muhammad Ali was the most famous human being on this planet for at least 30 years. He has done more for society world wide than me, you, and any decedents we have for the next 10 generations ever will. He has fed meals to more strangers, than you ever will to your own family. He revolutionized an entire movement of individualism. He was one of the first celebrities to speak against the Vietnam war. He is up there with MLK and Malcolm X when talking about who has done the most for black americans during the civil rights movement. The current president of the United states had two portraits in his office. One is of Lincoln, the other is Muhammad Ali. He has saved the lives of more people by pure inspiration, than you will ever meet.

A follower? What planet are you from? Because he is religious? Every Christian who prays to Jesus is automatically a follower? Or is it because you disagree with his religion, he is a follower?

And Parkinson putting Ali on the spot like that was not harmful you said? He was "a fan, who just wanted to ask some questions". Are you that ignorant? It's like bringing a devoted Christian to an interview, and asking him "So, you think all Jews go to hell? I mean your manager is Jewish. Is he going to hell, Ali?"

You should be ashamed to call yourself a boxing fan when your trying to degrade the legacy of one of it's greatest fighters.

    Your an embarrassment
