Yeah, I tend to think the same. Looks like he has the power, but is pretty cumbersome and I very much doubt he'd be able to last 12 rounds.
Yea, Badr Hari had him flailing around like a pansy in their rematch, had that been a boxer, he could have been seriously injured, he's not got the defence or technique to withstand good acurate punching, fortunately for him, he wont come across many of those, thanks to the bull**** talent on display in the heavyweights.
i think if hoost or lebanner started as boxers they would be good and Branco Cikatic come to mind and from k1 max guys like andy sower, sato,zambadis(greek guy) would be good if they were into it and overeem, i am sure if he focused on boxing he would be ok till mid level, his defense is not bad and hits very hard
I saw these two lil asian dudes fighting eachother in a K-1 fight awhile back, think it was a finals fight, and they would do some decent work as boxers no doubt.
The first one that would come to mind would be the now retired Ernesto "Mr. Perfect" Hoost. Despite being the master of the lowkick, he made the best combinations I've ever seen in K1. Sure hist opponants might not have been good boxers, but I love how his cominations go to both body and head, somthing I miss dearly in current heavyweights. Overeem is a beast, his weight growth over the years is very questionable, but he lacks a good chin and relies a lot on being able to overpower and intimidate his opponants, he'd be humiliated against any big strong and technical heavy in boxing.
I think this fight is telling (even though it is not a boxing match) overeem destroyed his opponent in the first round with short powerful punches. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxB2N_xZNMg[/ame] It wasnt a long fight but we witnessed a patient, stalking, controled fighter with tremendous power simply demolish his opponent (Ben Edwards) Doubt he would be anything special though, but it would be interesting to see him compete in boxing at some point.
Ben Edwards has won a couple of boxing matches too. Overeem would probably need a bit more work. But the main problem is stamina. 12 rounds in boxing and these big muscular guys gas out real quick.
Thats always going to be a big problem for any kickboxer looking to make the switch, kickboxing(and K1 espeically) is generally a sprint while boxing is more a test of endurance. Its the same reason K1 is more prone to upsets aswell, more aggresion means more openings rather than waiting for quality to tell. Even Vitali who made the switch early has I'd say been prone to tiring, its hard to change that aggresive mentality even with years of boxing expereince when its so tied into your fighting style. As far as the K1 HW's go Mike Bernardo was reasonabley sucessful holding the WBF belt, much the same story as Vitali aswell though depending heavly on early finishes. Remy didnt KO OVereem BTW, he knocked him down late in the 3rd in a fight he was probabley losing up until that point.
So I take it you're not a kickboxer then. Not only are kickboxing fights, especially ones in which muay thai fighters are prevalent, often slower paced than boxing. They are alot less tiring than boxing because they don't often employ much footwork or head movement. Boxing matches can be both a sprint and a test of endurance depending on the fighters. and what's all this about an aggressive mentality somehow being bad for boxing? Mike Tyson, David Tua, Margarito, Madaina, Ward and Gatti to name a few say you're wrong.
