Which boxers were known for their high work rate?

i thought gatti and ward had exceptionally good work rates in their first fight

If all people had seen of Ward were the Gatti and Augustus fights, they might get the idea he was normally always a high work rate guy.

 

Yes, this is most likely the most punches per round that he ever threw.

I counted a total of 608 punches that Rocky threw. At the end of the 8th round he threw 550 punches, which is an average of about 64 punches a round. In the last round, which only lasted just over a minute, he threw 58 punches.

In rounds 4 and 6, he was just under or just over 100 punches (98 & 103). In round 8, I have him throwing 86.

It's very hard to see if some of these were actually thrown, but I counted anything that even looked like a punch and this is what I came out with.

Ike Ibeabuchi & David Tua - their fight was awesome

 

Ike Ibeabuchi threw 975 punches, which is 5th best all-time by a heavyweight, & David Tua threw 755 and a total of 1730, of which 1048 were power punches.

So that's an average of 81 punches per round by Ibeabuchi and 63 by Tua.

 

Thanks for the stats on it Henry - staggering stuff!! I sometimes hammer away on the heavybag at the gym - it just beggars belief that someone can keep up that kind of punch rate - and take the same thing back at the same time!!?? :scaredas: It's bad enough just giving it to the heavy bag on it's own but can't imagine having to take the same kind of stick back at the same time too!!?? Jeez these guys must be made of something different - they really must

Frazier landed 354 of his 674 punches when he fought Ali the 3rd time

..some writers here seem to be equating a high work rate as a test for a good or great fighter.
to those who do...joe louis had a low work rate. didn't need a high one.
