Prime Felix Trinidad vs. The Big Four of 80's

Tito didn't even fight a prime Quartey and Whitaker, when they were champs with him in his division for like 5 years. De La Hoya coming up from 140 fought them all in 2 years.

De La Hoya and an old and shot Whitaker (who was having drug problems) are the only notable names Tito has at welter. And he arguably lost to De La Hoya.

I say he fights Leonard for the money and gets UD'd.

He won't fight Duran and Hearns, or even Benitez.

 

Loses to all of them.

Has a puncher's chance against Duran and Hearns though but Hearns is the more likely of the 4 to put Tito out early.

 

How did Tito get away with that at the time? Does anyone remember?

 

I remember he was chasing a big money fight, and he got one with Terrible Terry Norris at 154, only for it to fall through. Basically these guys just talked about and entertained the thought of fighting each other, but never got too serious about getting it done.


*Quartey also wanted Norris, but Norris rejected a couple million to fight him.

It's funny how Terry Norris was always calling out smaller guys. People forget there was a stalemate before the moneymaker De la Hoya fought Ike Quartey.

As for the thread question. They all beat Trinidad. His best weight was Welter so we'll stick there. Leonard stops him, He would be very competitive with Duran based on styles and size, but lose a decision. Benitez outboxes him to a relatively comfortable decision, just a bad match up for Felix.

Here's the weird one, i think if Trinidad got past the first 6 rounds with Hearns he would have a chance. I know it's a big "if" and there would be every chance of Tommy doing a Cuevas on him, but the power and intensity of Trinidad would cause a fatigued Hearns some problems. Got to go with the Hitman to starch him early though. His best chance would be with Hearns and Duran though IMO. Not to much of a chance mind you.

Notice i didn't even feel the need to mention Hagler.

 

KO's Duran Hearns style, loses on points to SRL, gets KO'd by Hearns, goes to a split decision with Hagler. WITH loaded gloves. Without them, he only beats Duran, who couldn't even get past Kirkland Laing.

 

Very good post. All in all, I can't see Tito standing up to Tommy's right hand.

Beats Duran at 154, but loses at 147. He gets knocked out by Hearns at 147 and 154 and gets knocked out by Hagler at 160, Leonard decisions him at 147.

 

0-4...Sadly, because Tito is my Favorite Boricua Fighter.

 

Can't see Tito beating any of them. His best shot would be against the naturally smaller Duran but he'd most likely lose on points to Duran.

Leonard would be too quick and box circles round Tito. If De La Hoya could so easily outbox him, then Leonard would be an even harder proposition. Leonard stops Tito late.

Hagler would walk through Tito's best shots and gring him down and stop him in the second half of the fight.

Hearns could stop Tito early. Even if Trinidad can survive until the later rounds I can't see how he will cope with Hearns jab.

No chance. Duran traded with bigger, better punchers. Trinidad is to predictable and one dimensional to beat Roberto. Especially at 147.
