Pretty cool clips... The older Dempsey on a game show in 1964 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WHXdzib91w&feature=related[/ame] A 1940's (?) clip of Dempsey and Willard playing around ... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5rV9y_LbFE&feature=related[/ame] Both of these are new to me ...
You're quite welcome ... whenever I stumble across any golden nuggets I like to share them even though the random insecure ***** may pass a comment about knowing about them forever ... the way I see it is that if they are new to me there is a fair shot they will be new to may others ... enjoy ...
Oh, yeah. No, I knew about them since twenty years before they came out. I've watched both pieces thirty-eight times and have them completely memorized to the point where I could draw every frame of it and make a perfect animated copy of each video. I just meant thanks for reminding me that I've seen and perfectly memorized them and for introducing other, less knowledgeable posters than myself to the footage.
he, thanks for these two gems... As an old fuddy-duddy ,they brought tears to me eyes...For to me the Great Jack Dempsey, was the FACE of boxing...:goodCarried himself like a CHAMP....
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONFKgforsX0&feature=related[/ame] Dunno who's the guy sparring Dempsey at 4:33 on. Interesting close-up, showing Dempsey effective bob-waving and shoulder roll.
Me too Burt ... I might have debated over his career decisions but to me he remains one of the great American sports stories of all time .. how a man can come from such a tough background, become champ and for decades after he retires he remains a gentleman and a class act ... no headlines of a drunken Dempsey causing troble or Dempsey was a wife beater, ect ... the way he morphed into such a class act is a huge part of the legend to me ... it's interesting to see how he was still a bit rough around the communication skills and seemed a bit uncomfortable about it but he pushed foward ... also nice to see at 70 he was completely alert and showed zero signs of dunch drunk syndrom ,,, pretty amazing actually ...
He, Seeing the clip of Dempsey and Willard fooling around in their old age, a thought keeps reoccuring. Dempsey, so much shorter than Willard, had to punch UP, to reach Willard's chin. Not a natural way to hit with full maximum.! Try it...That being said, besides the hand cranked film of the fight in Toledo, is it any wonder that some of todays posters,, call the Manassa Mauler "primitive and OLD STYLE ".And are they WRONG ! I try to be objective, but what a 180 pound Dempsey did to the never before floored Jess Willard, was an amazing feat of power.. After all the murderous punching Joe Louis ,at 200 pounds couldn't stop a large punching bag until the 13th rd in 1941...Ringsiders to the Dempsey massacre of Willard raved about him, til the day they died. For they SAW the real Dempsey live, and in proper speed...Thanks again.. P.S. I omitted the name Abe Simon, who Louis kod in 13 rounds...Yes, still my 2 favorite heavyweights Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis....
when they start dancing around fast is the best hahahahahahaha it reminds me of an old three stooges episode... thanks for the clips he-grant.
thank you! these are great Does anybody else sense and fear when Willard is parrying those punches? If I were him I would lol
