the way martinez recently made the jump from a good fighter, to an elite fighter. Who will be the next to do so?

juan marquez re-established himself as an elite fighter, but who will be the next to make the leap?

I actually believe it will be khan.

I did originally pick rafa, but his shoulder messed that up.

so what does esb think? the next fighter to make that leap will be who?

Yeah I think we will see Khan make the leap within the next year or so. I expect him to stop Maidana on the 11th, then beat the winner of Bradley - Devon. From there on the world's his oyster.

Also Carl Froch. He had a great win the weekend, and now he is in with a real chance to win the tournament (will ward be HEAVY favourite if the cobra beats Johnson? I'm not so sure). If he goes on to beat Ward and then bute, he will enter the top 5 p4p IMO.

Another guy worth mentioning is Gamboa. Great talent, and has a massive chance of beating John next year. Then it looks the the showdown everyone wants with JuanMa. Who knows what will happen.

That's my 3 anyway. I'm not saying these are set in stone by any means. But they all have great chances at becoming elite fighters IMO

Hopefully Carl Froch. I like to see boxers with huge balls and a "come on lets fight" attitude

khan does have the world at his feet IMO.

id say juanma over gamboa tho, thats if he sits on his win over rafa, and goes on to fight the winner of gamboa-john.

other than that, id say it could only be pascal. if he stops hopkins early he will probs rematch dawson/cloud next. a win over either well establishes him IMO

ooooo dont forget montiel. if he gets another big fight then he has a great chance

nathan cleverly, wow i have seen his career develop. i remember vs macintosh, a sheffield fighter, he kept getting nailed by counters and i thought he would drop, but he ended up stopping him.

another interesting thing about him is his formula for power. i'm a maths graduate also, now a teacher, and when i was at uni, he was something like 8-0 with 1 knockout, he said he found a formula for power, and over his next 10 fights i think he stopped 8 opponents. always amazed me that did.

but definitely, he is maybe 1 fight away from brehmer. whether he can handle pascal and cloud is another matter

Pirog is probably just a win or two away from grabbing a lot of attention.

i agree, but i hold it agianst him the amount of hype he received for stopping jacobs.

the month after the fight was ridiculous. going off posts back then he would beat every man and his dog.

i wanna see him vs sturm or sylvester. maybe AA

If Froch ends up taking all the marbles I'll be very surprised, but give him full credit.

for froch to get a p4p ranking he woudl have to beat johnson, ward and pascal in a row. all convincingly. doing that he would be a cert. but in likelihood he will beat johnson, then fight ward and kessler.

Depends what your definition of "elite" is. I'd say Tim Bradley, but he probabily is already elite.
