Could Dick have done what Briscoe and Valdez came close to doing, but couldn't quite?

No, I believe Monzon would have had the ideal style for beating Tiger..using his height and reach, he would consistantly use the jab and outbox & outpoint Tiger over 15.

I think this would be quite a close fight. Tiger would be easily the best opponent of Monzon while Monzon wasn´t better than the Giardello of the 3rd Tiger fight IMO. Yes, Tiger lost that one but Monzon fought different to Joey. Monzon would win in the end but it would be tough, close and he would have to fight harder than in all of his other fights. Aside of that I think he harder punching, pre-shot Monzon would do better than the later one.

Monzon outmaneuvers Tiger to a decision, though even an old Tiger did hand a loss to Benvenuti, one of Monzon's better opponents.

Monzon wins this by outpointing Tiger...Not by attempting to outfight him. When Monzon keeps his distance he scores, Tiger doesn't. The Tiger that fought Carter, Fernandez, Gonzalez was a brutal, incredibly strong middleweight...and Monzon would respect this. It would be reasonably close if Tiger would elect to close distance as he did against Giardello in their forth fight...but even then, Monzon would dictate the distance between them. If Tiger stays back, and attempts to counter (as he usually did) the decision is wider.

Monzon decision. perfect match-up for monzon. advantages in height, reach and both maybe as strong as each other. I dont see tiger havinbg eough power to ko monzon or stop him. and rightly said above the ability to counterpunch would of been strongly in monzons favor.

Monzon keeps Tiger at bay for a UD over 15.

    Tiger loses on points.

Valdez could have had a better chance before a car accident though.

Monzon but Tiger pushes him all the way making him work for it in a close fight, imo this would be Monzon's best opponent

I think Tiger could win. A lot of the guys Monzon beats did a "mo mas" of sorts at one point or another when they fought...Tiger is unbreakable. He also happens to be extremely skilled. I think he had a very good chance. If I was betting with your money I'd be happy to take the apparently long odds.

Monzon would have been a virtual shoo-in to beat Tiger. The classic formula for troubling Tiger was a good, constant jab (think a good trombone player), an unwillingness to make the mistake of slugging with him and to box, box, box. Monzon wasn't a fluid, fancy stylist but he was a superb, elite ring general and extremely effective..he would have stuck with the plan and beaten Tiger much like he did vs Briscoe II, even though Tiger was indeed skilled and a better fighter than Briscoe.

Tiger would win IMO. Rock hard, hit hard, put his shots together brilliantly and versatile. Size wasn't an issue for him and Monzon isn't stopping him. Monzon will do his best to keep his range and build his rhythm, but I think he'll find it harder to evade Tiger than any of the opponents he faced.

Everyone will go for Monzon so I'll go for Tiger. I think they are both as great as each other as middleweights.
