Trash talk works both ways. If it is clever, then it boosts your rep. If you just think it is clever, then you look like a dick. For example, Floyd Mayweather looks like a dick. Briggs is ok at trash talk, so it kinda works for him. Ali was very good, and it worked very well. Most fighters are **** at it. Secondly, trash talk only works when you back it up (or try to back it up). If you flap your open vagina then run away from fights, then you look like a human piece of ****. Like David Haye - internationally recognised as the single biggest joke in the history of boxing. If you talk big, but seriously back it up, then it works for you. Like Vic Darchinyan - who isn't blessed with charisma, but who would get in the ring with Wladamir Klitschko tomorrow.
Funny but the majority are lame at it. Haye sounds like a little girl trying to get in the last word. It does not work for him. As for boxing, it has no effect on anyone unless they have serious psychological problems already. As Tyson says, "we are going to fight anyway..."
I don't like trash talking, but if you trash talk to hype up the fight then back it up, it makes it more acceptable. If you trash talk then go on vacation and lose your urge, that makes you the biggest ***** in the sport :deal
Floyd isn't the best trash talker, but his **** accomplishes its purpose. He annoys the guy he's about to beat up and gets into their head. It also annoys sports fans, making them want to see him lose, and so they buy his PPV. Is his trash talking good? No. Is it effective? Yes, very.
I love how Oscar leered at Mayorga after dropping him in the first round. He looked down at him like, "yeah, *****."
In Oscar's book, he claimed he could have stopped Mayorga in the 1st round but kept it going for awhile to punish Mayorga.
