Macklin calls Dan Rafael out of the blue? (source Dans twitter)

It seems Macklin has called Dan Rafael to put his case forward that he wants Martinez! :thumbsup

    Macklin has no chance of:

    a) getting the fight
    b) winning it if it somehow does come off.

Yeah but Lee at least has a bit of a name in the US, certainly much more than Macklin does. They'd both lose.

Why not. Not to many of the middleweight champs are gonna want to take him on. Macklin will bring Irish and British support, HBO and SKY. Both guys come to fight not dance. Floyd and Manny don't want to know about Martinez. Don't think Cotto or Margarito want to go there right now. Chaver jr. is a contender but we know Arum won't let that happen. Mosley is a guy in need of money who needs to retire but Arums whats to sacrifice him to Pacman. A rematch with Paul Williams?? Pirog just got his title and Martinez would be the wrong first defence. In the absence of a more credible offer Macklin makes perfect sence.

Rafael strangely has Macklin ahead of Pirog in his rankings. He has Brook in the top 10 at welter 2 !.. I joined in on 1 of his chats a few weeks and asked why he had Macklin ranked ahead of Pirog. He replied " Mackin has beaten the better fighters" . Seemingly, beating a washed up and limited even at his peak Asikainen is more impressive than beating Jantuah and Jacobs. And Pirog did a way better job on Ajetovic than Macklin. Ah he is like that though Rafael, he thinks he is the wealth of knowledge but he knows **** all outside the states and thinks he is been pc and intuitive by giving British boxers rankings they shouldn't have really.

He's a terrible journo, and belongs in the General with some of his comments.

Macklin's not chinny and Sergio's not some banger who overwhelms opponents early. He'd get a frightful beating, but unless he runs right at Martinez early on, he should make it through.

i agree that its time for him to fight someone world class- in fairness he has fought some good fighters- elcock, moore, asikainen & campas.

whilst he hasn't challenged the best yet it hasn't bean for the want of trying. macklin has started to call out a lot of guys. its possible that this is either because of frustration or because he wants to get under their skin and thinks he can get fights that way.

it remains to be seen if his strategy will work but you cant fault him for the hunger and trying. there's a certain restlesness about macklin and this is evident in the amount of times he's changed trainers in recent years.

What other contenders have beaten anyone to be considered world class?

Not Golovkin, not N'Jikam, not Zbik, not Lee, not Chavez Jr. Yet these guys are knocking on the door why can't Macklin?
