Ali took a moar significant vacation than Floyd. His was a vacation from Vietnam. Lots of people didn't like that ****.

Floyd's a coo cat. When he made his UStream rant, he said he doesn't want anyone "magically" becoming a Mayweather fan after he beats emmanuel.

Leon, you aren't going to try to equate Ali's consceintious objection to the Vietnam War with Floyd Jr's "no urge" statement. The two aren't even close. While I totally disagree with Ali's actions, I respect them because that's his American right. Floyd's actions are indefensible... As far as "bandwagoner" fans, I'm sure at the moment he'll take any he can get... :rasta

I'm saying you bringing up Ali was a bad example. That guy was anti-America and even racist to white people.

Surprisingly, the answer to this is Floyd.

Because that bullsh!t the media pushes about 'being humble' and 'respecting the game' nonsense is saved for Black athletes, which America (somewhat) still prefers to fit the 'Joe Louis/Jesse Owens' model of 'quiet dignity'.

Nah, America truly embraces flashy, brash, in-your-face, fugg-the-world-I'll-do-it-my-way, cocky (white) athletes. This is especially true when they are 1) excellent at their craft AND 2) they WIN.

Being humble will get you respected, being arrogant will get you loved.

Compare the treatment of quiet and dignified Pete Sampras to the louder, brasher Andre Agassi. Compare Maddox to Clemens. Look how John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors are still fan favorites. Look at the hype around Brian Bosworth, Jim McMahon, Kyle Turley, Jeremy Shockey, or Jared Allen. Look at slobbering over anything Brett Favre. Look at the money David Beckham got to bring his 'mystique' to American soccer. Even coaches like Bob Knight are embraced.

Why do you think NASCAR blew up like it did.

Hell, we've elected Presidents because they had that 'Texas swagger'.

What are you talking about? Floyd is an American. They just can't get behind a man like Floyd but you can't blame them. Floyd makes it really hard for them to support him you know why.

Haha, he is the media's boy. Pacquiao pisses me off, not because of him, but becuase of a laundry list of things. For starters: Freddie Roach, Top Rank, catch-weights, and well, steroids.

The three reasons boxing is so F'd up: promoters, sanctioning bodies, weight classes. He is the biggest possible tool to/of all three.

Leon, he was still beloved and respected, even after his refusal to serve. And today he has almost a demi-god type of status. Tyson wasn't hated by the media. They loved him. He brought excitement to boxing and the Heavyweight division. He fell out of favor because of his behavior, not because of his skin color.

Floyd Jr. is falling into the same trap. :smoke

Yea, people usually realize how much someone or thing is worth once they're gone for good. Ali was the king of talking ****, and that will attract haters. His **** talking makes Floyd's jokes look like preschool.

Yeah people didn't like Ali that much back then. We don't really appreciate athletes until after the retire for a few years. He used to be a loud mouth and call the white man the devil
