Bob Arum promoted both fighters at the time, or rather promoted Erik Morales, and used Marquez and did what ever the hell he pleased with him.

The story is too damn long for me to rehash and tell it........I've done it many times in this forum, and I'm not going to be bothered retelling a long story where the mass forum will assume that Arum's being honest when he say's he offered Marquez 1.5 million to fight Morales.:nut

......there are a few articles out there that quote Arum as having offered Marquez 1.5 million to fight Morales......they are worthless however in that they dont have the other side of the story.

If you're going to write an article and quote Arum on his offering.......validate it by having a quote from the Marquez team as well on your article.......these ding bat Top Rank paid so called journalist, did no such thing.:nut

Marquez should have been rematching Pacquiao at the time, but Arum backstabbed Marquez.........a Marquez-Pacquiao rematch negotiation was just a front by Arum to relift his cash cow at the time (Morales) who had just lost the 3rd fight of a trilogy against MAB........

After Morales lost to MAB, Arum's intention all along was to get Morales a fight against the man who had knocked out MAB, yep that man was Manny Pacquiao!

It really does'nt take an Einstein to figure out Arum wanted his cash cow fighting Pacquiao, and not Marquez.:deal

    good links, thanks! :good

While part of me can see why Team Marquez would decline the $750,000 for the rematch with Pac on principle and while it does look like Marquez was being screwed over by Arum, in hindsight, that was still the worst career move for Marquez. Because in the end, the main reason that Marquez is as big a name as he is now is because of those two incredibly close fights with Pac.

The sooner he had rematched Pac the sooner his career would have jump started. Heck, without the improvements to Pac's technique that were spurred by his loss to Morales, it very well could have been Marquez with the official W against Pac and not Morales. If that had happened, a mega fight between Marquez and Morales would have been easy to make, which could possible yet another great all Mexican rivalry.

But no, he stuck with his principles, got screwed over even more w/o Arum and only got a rematch with Pac by the time Pac had improved enough to the point where even if Marquez had already figured Pac's style out, he still couldn't get a convincing win. He should have just taken the $750,000.

I mean, even Pac was being robbed blind by his then promoter Murad Muhammad who was basically stealing all the PPV money and just giving Pac the purse split... and yet despite this Pac still (probably because he was to wet behind the ears to figure out he was being robbed by his promoter) went on to fight Barrera, Marquez and Morales in a span of just 4 fights under Murad. An incredible run (despite going 1-1-1) that would essentialy start Pac's ascent to stardom.

Oh well, to bad for Marquez I guess.

Yup, Marquez turn down the rematch with Pac only to fight John for 30k, that is something I cannot understand.

Go over to boxrec and look at the dates of the first Morales/Pacquiao fight and the JMM/John fight........a full year had past after Morales/Pac till JMM fought
    Chris.......

This JMM turned down 750K for a Pac rematch to go fight John for 30K in Indonesia is something *******s made up to make themselves feel better for Marquez schooling Manny Pacquiao!:yep

    ......look it up for yourselves!:deal
