Erik Morales vs JMM...What's the "REAL REASON" this fight Never Happened?

i beg to differ. when he was in his prime he battled it out with floyd mayweather for the mythical p4p title. thats something. quite a few people actually called for that fight to happen.

 

Damn that would have been a great fight.

 

Let me summarize what happened back then because some of you are still grasping at the same falsehoods made up in this very forum.

During JMM's time at Featherweight he was a very high risk and low reward fighter.
Bob Arum kept him away from his top draw Morales.
Barrera was making sure he didn't fight his mandatory Marquez and told us that he was moving back down to 122 after beating hamed and even dropped the belt so that he didn't have to face JMM. Right after that he got beat by Pacquiao.

JMM fights Pacquiao and it turned out to be a great exciting fight. What do people want after a great exciting fight? Another one.
JMM and Pacquiao get offered the rematch for 750K each. Now the JMM team understood that now their rematch was going to be a big fight and Arum and Pacquiao's promoter at the time were going to get a much bigger cut from the earnings. So JMM's team asked for negotiations knowing full well that they could get more money for both of the fighters.

Bob Arum wanted no negotiations in a 'take it or leave it' stance and dropped the fight immediately to clear the way for his top draw Morales to fight with Pacquiao.

Now JMM is left in lingo with no fights. At least he kept he 2 belts right, the IBF and WBA Superchamp? Nope. Arum didn't want to promote JMM's IBF mandatory so his belt was taken. And according to WBA Superchamp rules you gotta have another belt to have it, so BOOM! he loses his 2 belts instantly.

So now at this point you got Marquez getting low balled by Bob Arum in the Pacquiao rematch, unable to fight his mandatories because Bom Arum doesn't feel like promoting, keeping him away from this top draws, with no belts. Arum was having his way with this warrior and holding him back as much as possible, most likely in hopes that JMM would disappear from the face of the earth.

So naturally JMM wants out of Arums grasp. Has one fight left in his contract under Top Rank and Arum is not willing to promote his mandatory challenge against Chris John, who now holds the WBA belt. With a painful decision JMM accepts the Chris John fight in Indonesia 2 YEARS, I said 2 YEARS after he fought Pacquiao to try to win his belt back AND finally get rid of Bob Arum.

MATH SECTION: JMM-MP fight in 2004, JMM-CJ fight in 2006. 2006 - 2004 = 2

You know the story after that, JMM loses a hometown decision, ends his contract with Top Rank, signs with Golden Boy, gets the big fights. :good

 

Fair comment man, but Morales did fight Chi, Kelley and Ayala aswell as Barrera at that weight. Surely that is a fair pass for not fighting Marquez? At 130 he definitely fought the best even if he wasn't exactly victorious in all his outings. Can the failure of the fight not be put down to these two guys being at different stages or fighting other good/great fighter in their careers?

Now to answer the thread, the money offers that never make it to the table but always make it to the media is another dirty little trick from Bob Arums tool bag of manipulations. And he likes to use it often.

The first Morales offer that the JMM team received through the media, not the table or by phone, was before the first Morales-Pacquiao fight I think. Right after Bob Arum dropped the the JMM-Pacquiao rematch.

Bob Arum claims to have made an offer of 1.5 million to Marquez. When the JMM team heard this they laughed because they never got the offer. Bob Arum laughed as well but this time he made Marquez irrelevant by claiming that JMM didn't want the Pacquiao rematch and didn't want the Morales fight.

The second offer was in 2006 where Bob Arum again claimed that he made an offer to JMM for him to fight Morales in the fall of 2006. Of course the offer was never actually presented to the JMM team.

A lot of *******s cling on to his one to make the BS claim that JMM ducked Morales but like most of the time they avoid the facts.

What happened in the fall of 2006? The Morales-Pacquiao rubbermatch. The entire year of 06 was spent promoting this fight. Morales had taken most of the year off to lose a lot of weight he had accumulated and to train for the 3rd Pacquiao fight. There was no way Bob Arum would offset his big money making fighters going at it again.

The BS claims that Arum pulled out of his ass and dumped on the public were to avoid talks of JMM again.

Seriously, Bob Arum is one of the biggest scumbags in boxing. This ******* will destroy your boxing career for his sake only. Who knows how many other up and coming boxers were ruined due to 'Honest Bob'.

So basically we have a he said, she said type situation, so you choose to beleicve who you like more?

If JMM was never offered the 750K, how can you even be sure? Because they said they never were? OK, that might be true. Might also be them saving trying to face.

 

Divac is trying to say that JMM didn't drop the rematch to go fight Chris John in Indonesia.

A 750K offer was made to JMM but was shut down when he tried to negotiate for more.

It was like an insult. We knew there was more money out there for that fight. They wanted to keep half for themselves without throwing punches. It wasn't fair.

I wouldn't particularly word it that way, because that makes it sound they they chose Chris John OVER Pac. Wasn';t the case. But they did refuse the rematch based on not getting the money they want only to take the option of Chris John, which was a nandatory I think?

I do recall this situation. The press blasted Bernstein on this debacle.

I wasn't saying he turned down Pac in order to face johns, I said he turned it down, and Chris Johns was one of the only other options, so he took it.

 

That is correct. And Beristain and his team did get blasted for doing that.

 

Morales doesnt need Marquez on his Resume. The mere fact that he defeated Barrera and Pacquiao is enough.
