Best consistent performances by a then drug/alcohol addicted boxer

    It might sound a little sick, but I can't help but find it impressive to see a boxer with bad addictions still be dominant against another clean fighter. Dont get me wrong, I don't want to see our fighters lives messed up by addicitions, just speaking on the very real subject.

    To start I wanna say

    . He had ALOT of substance abuse issues, but for the most part was still dominant while dealing with them.

    I know there are plenty others. Wasn't Valero addicted to drugs/alcohol during his career?

    Thoughts on this?

    Jake LaMotta admitted drinking everyday before a lot of his fights. Said he trained on "alcohol and cigarettes" :lol::rofl:patsch

    Far from the most successful and certainly not leaving the same kind of legacy as LaMotta and Mayorga, but Jason Booth must get a mention for his recovery and subsequent success.

    Carlos Monzon I guess...Not a drug adict or anything but it's rumoured he smoked like 40 cigarettes a day. He apparently smoked while running to relieve the boredom - could be a myth but very possible since smoking is quite relaxing.

    The brother of the psycotic Tony Ayala, Mike Ayala, was a featherweight contender in the 70's and 80's.
    He fought a lot of top guys competing as a top contender in a fairly competitiive time for featherweight. He also won national titles as an amatuer in 73 and 74.
    He gave Danny Lopez a real rough scrap for the 126 title on national TV in 1979, losing a TKO in the 15th.
    All this accomplished while feeding a heroin habit, real hard core needle use.
