    MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank promotions chief Bob Arum has bared his reasons for being hesitant in dealing with Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), especially when it comes to Manny Pacquiao.

    “There'll always can be fights [between Top Rank and GBP],” Arum told FanHouse.com’s Elie Seckbach. “But you have to understand, Richard Schaefer and Oscar de la Hoya defamed Manny Pacquiao.”

    De la Hoya is a majority owner of GBP while Schaefer is its chief executive officer (CEO).

    Arum was referring to the hatchet job allegedly done by GBP against Pacquiao while they were negotiating for a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight early this year.

    GBP sided with Mayweather when the American boxer accused Pacquiao of using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).

    “Manny Pacquiao is dear to my heart, not because he's a great fighter and is very lucrative, that's true. But Manny Pacquiao is my friend, and anybody who defames my friend, I will treat as a piece of garbage,” said Arum.

    The promoter’s statement is also a sign that another rematch between Pacquiao and GBP’s Juan Manuel Marquez is unlikely.

    Just recently, De la Hoya accused Pacquiao of beating his opponents by forcing them to drain in weight.

    He claimed that this is the reason why he was forced to quit against Pacquiao when they fought in December 2008. De la Hoya threw in the towel in the 8th round.

    De la Hoya made the allegation as he appealed for a third fight between Marquez and Pacquiao.

    GBP are not very smart business people, alienating the company they can make the most money with.

    How awesome would it be if they end up getting shut out of the Pac-Mayweather bout, and it's done by DKP and TR? That would be a most beautiful scenario to this situation.

    this pointless fued between arum and gbp is bad for boxing, it prevents big fights from happening. Why the hell was the mayweather megotions with gbp anyway i thought i heared floyd say he has his own promotional company and doesnt need anybody else.

    I want a fight bet JMM and Pac at 140 or Pac and Berto. But GPB should shut their mouths and not say bad things about person who will put money in their pockets.

    Bob is putting money in their pockets either way every time Manny fights, and both sides are saying "bad things" about someone who can put money in their pockets. In fact, Bob's been doing nearly all of the talking for quite some time now. Maybe he should STFU.

    I laughed when I heard that on the video too. Bob would sell Manny's ******* to a pack of AIDS infected buttrapists in a New York second if that was the most money he could make off him.

    They don't want the fight, stop the **** ODLH, Arum and Roach wanted JMM to coming at 147lbs and they didn't agree to random blood test, Pacquio said he was afraid of "neddles", this coming from a guy cover by tatoos, he is on peds, just check his head and tell me if that is normal.

    Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse.

    As if Arum has never bad-mouthed or undermined anyone. The nerve on this guy...it's off the charts. This is Boxing. Trash-talking happens. Calling it defamation is like a basketball player taking it personal when he gets fouled with no malicious intention.

    Pac can fight Shane. Fine. They're both irrelevant to me. If Pac wants to take steps backwards instead of forward, that's his choice. Have fun getting raped by critics, Manny. And good luck with suing each and every one of them for "defamation of character."

    lol, what else would you call trying to taint someone as a drug cheat without a shred of evidence? And they used something as sacred as the Ring to this.

    I may be wrong, but I've never heard Arum call a Mosley a steroid cheat, or Oscar a ********** for raping that 15 year old in Mexico. Only scumbags like De La Hoya and Schaefer would stoop so low..
