Matters big time, especially when we are discussing elite puncher fighters. 2oz of material padding doesn't sound like much but you would be surprised at the extra volume. It ereally pisses me off that arum messes with the rules where the gloves are concerned. Would the damge to margos face be as bad as it was if 10 oz gloves were used..

    I sparred with 16oz
Worked the bag and mitts with 12oz
Fought with 8oz but mostly 10oz
    _________
You can feel the power much much more with 8oz.
The bigger the glove and slower you are..your hands feel heavier.

I always shadow box with 3 lb weighs.

Also, Floyd has brittle hands and I would guess he would want more cushion.

I've also seen where they specify the brand of gloves. This is because different manufacturers line their gloves differently.

    Everyone has their own preference.

A friend of mine has winning gloves. Them babes are so nice. They really protect your handalot better.

Cleto Reyes are thicker...I can only imagined taking a Titio punch. How much more it'll hurt after pushing the padding back some. Damn

There are the same weight wise. And Cleto reyes is thinner on the knuckles part.

The difference is in the distribution of the padding.

I made a post already before about this.

Cleto Reyes boxing gloves are known as punchers' gloves. They are small and compact, and more of the weight is distributed to the wrist as opposed to over the hand. The result is what many people believe is a harder, more dangerous punch. Fighter's known for their punching power may use Cleto Reyes boxing gloves to exploit their advantage even more. Conversely, fighters without much power may turn to a pair of Cleto Reyes professional fighting gloves to try to improve or eliminate their weakness.

On the far end of the spectrum from Cleto Reyes are Grant boxing gloves. Grant boxing gloves appear larger and cushier than most other models and brands. More of the weight is placed into the hand as opposed to the wrist, offering increased protection of a fighter's hands. Fighters who have been known to break their hands often or who are trying to prevent that from happening love Grant gloves for the added protection. Additionally, due to their fluffier shape, Grant gloves can be a defensive tool, helping a fighter to block and deflect more of his opponent's shots. (my addition : this is the gloves where fighters looks like they have lollipop on their hands)

Differences between boxing gloves are not always as easy to spot. As mentioned, Cleto Reyes and Grant are on the complete opposite sides of the equation. In the middle, you'll find brands such as Everlast, Title, Ringside and TKO that provide well rounded gloves that are used by many different fighters and fighting styles.

I've sparred with both 8oz and 10oz just to see and you can definitely tell the difference. Fights at welterweight are almost always with 8oz gloves and then there are different types of glove as well that affect punching power. Floyd made Shane wear Grants to take away some of his punching power when he would normally use Cleto Reyes, Floyd always uses the Grants because of their better protection and larger surface area. At the end of the day the glove type may well make the difference in a close fight.

Back in the day George Foreman fought Ron Lyle wearing 8oz gloves. Thats a battle between two HUGE punchers in the heavyweight division for gods sake!

A puncher should be allowed to wear Cleto Reyes otherwise you are handicapping him or favoring the other fighter. Punching is what he brings to the table.

Likewise, a fighter with brittle hands should wear Grant gloves if he wants. Grant gloves are actually bi8gger looking because the padding is on the knuckles and favor defensive fighters because in guard position, it provides extra protection, like having a pillow to blunt a punch instead of a pin cushion.

I don't get why paople are making so much fuss about the gloves. Fights are not supposed to handicap a fighter otherwise you won't be getting 100 per cent out of the best of that fighter.

Even if Gayweather would wear 8 oz glove, if he is wearing a Grant gloves, I doubt he would have inflicted damage comparable to what Pac has done. He is never known as a puncher and even assuming he is a puncher, he never throws enought power punches to cause similar damage.. I doubt he can wear Reyes because it would break his hand.

Choice of Gloves is dictated by style, power, hand condition. It would not be right to ask Pac to wear a 10 oz Grant or everlast gloves.

    It is not compact.

The padding is distributed on the wrist area instead than on the knuckles like in the grant, or everlast that is why it looks smaller.

Weight-wise, they are the same - 8 oz.

Reyes gloves apparently used horse's hair as padding in the past and that was more devastating because as the fight progresses, the padding becomes more compact.
