    Alan Rudkin!

and my avatar Charlie White fought for the lightweight and welterweight titles 4 times and lost everytime but he was good enough to have knocked Benny Leonard clean out of the ring though he had a killer left hook he somewhat lacked that finishing instinct

They didn't hold much credibility but there have been some state recognised 'world champs', but Hedgemon Lewis, Kenny Lane and Eddie Cotton all came close to the real brass ring also except for an exemplary champ in their way. Also, I would add in to these outstanding contenders the names of Young Stribling, Bernardo Caraballo, Jorge Ahumada and Adolph Pruitt.

Elley Bennett is a personal favourite of mine.

"No non-European will be fighting Vic Toweel for his world title in South Africa"... I believe that was the quote.

A great shame, as the Toweel Camp had agreed initially to fight Bennett. Only refusing after learning of Elley's skin colour.
