Nah, Gates clearly broke his hand in the first round. He was moving well and throwing straight counters.

Darryl - they actually offered this fight to Ishe Smith about a month and a half ago, but he turned down the fight because he said it was too short of notice. Either way, Lemieux is supposed to face Marco Antonio Rubio in a few months, so that will be a solid step up. This was purely a stay-busy fight and obviously a step back in terms of level of opponent.

Disappointing bout. Gates put up more of a fight when they were trying to take his wraps off.

Still, it's good to see Lemieux staying active.

Marco Antonio Rubio would be a good fight for him. Guy is tough.

He's 21 years old - what the hell do you want from him?

My dad is from Quebec farmland, and he can't understand French movies at all. We were watching Amelie and he didn't even realize the movie was in French until we told him. Outside of the major cities, there's a really big difference between Canadian French and real French.

They should have brought in someone like Ossie Duran, Kassim Ouma, Matt Vanda, Bryan Vera, Angel Hernandez, Marcus Upshaw, Samuel Miller, Darnell Boone, Eromosele Albert. Experienced fighters that will genuinely at least allow them do a comparison with other top fighters these guys have faced.

    Edited for accuracy.

I'll be translating the video in about an hour (after lunch lol), unless somebody else wants to take a stab at it. I'm a French Canadian, went to France for a 5 month exchange (RMC / French Air Force Academy) in Spring '06... they couldn't understand 80% of what I was saying, but it worked out pretty good the other way around hehe. "Putain mais t'es complètement à la rue!" still cracks me up. :rofl

It was only a keep busy fight so I have no complaints.

But, and I expect people to think I'm insane for saying this, Gates kinda showed a way to beat Lemieux. A tall, rangy boxer with a good jab who goes on his bike for 12 rounds could undo Lemieux.

I really like Lemieux but his physical stature prevents me from thinking he can be truly special. I think Andy Lee would frustrate the **** out of Lemieux.

    Seriously, who's stupid enough to

1- Come to fight in Montreal ?
2- Against a young KO artist
    3- With what ? A 2 or 3 weeks notice ?

Like others said, Lemieux already had a fight scheduled against Rubio. I did not watch the fight, because I don't like these kinds of fights. However, I don't have anything against the choice of Gates... because it wasn't much of a choice. Patience my friends...

Lemieux was cutting the ring pretty well in the secound round and was starting to catch up on Gates!
