Reggie Johnson a southpaw Roy Jones?

I think it would actually be a bit more competitive then a lot of people think, I like Steve. But Roy would shread him up and would barely drop a round in the process.

Obviously Roach was biased and maybe a little drunk aswell.

Collins wouldn't be able to counter Jones, I'd rate even a drained Toney and a young Hopkins better when it comes to using the counter right hand.

If Collins were to win, he'd have to impose his strength and make it a rough infight, but I just can't see that happening except for small parts in the fight when Jones, as usual, goes back to lay on the ropes for no reason.

Collins would be the worst style to to potentially beat a Prime Jones. He lacks the speed, skill and 1 shot power. McClellan would have the best chance of all the 90s contender, although Jones may well have made him look foolish with his lack of defense, he still has the great equaliser to get it done. Benn maybe has the power but he isn't landing left hooks on Jones and had problem with much inferior boxer movers

Collins would have been beaten to a pulp.

i disagree and its laughable that some of the people on this thread consider their opinions on boxing more vaid then freddie roache. anyone who makes throw away remarks about roache being intoxicated is just displaying their own ignorance.

I doubt Collins would win but his drive and determination would have made it a hard night for Roy. I'd imagine a wide points decision with Collins having the odd moment where he roughed up his opponent.

what does Roach think Jones can't knock out Collins for? McCallum had him out on his feet

i see a number of fighters in history knocking Collins out in a chilling fashion and Roy is one of them

Surely you must accept that roach has a slight conflict of interests here though .

Anyway i agree with the majority, roy was in a different class to collins and also has the stylistic advantages. He would give collins a bit of a hiding

i accept he could have a natural bias but i genuinely believe that someone in his position and as professional as he has with such an attention to detail could look at it far more objectively than oursleves. i don't think he would be blinded by emotion or favouritism and would make such a statement if he hadn't given it great consideration. it just my opinion.

for the record i think jones would have won on points. not as convincingly as some people may think. collins was never stopped in his whole career and he fought the best in the middleweight division and some of the best at super middleweight.

jones was great- no mistake about it but its foolish to suggest that an 11 year pro veteran who was never stopped and fought in about ten world title fights would be destroyed.

I'm to know all the keyboard jockeys know more than some guy named Roach.

Jones had a habit of doing that.

Watching Steve Collins's fights, he appears more vulnerable than he is often made out to be. It's just the sheer toughness of the man that allows him to soldier on in some fights, rather than some invincible chin that he supposedly has.
