If you consider Puerto Rico a separate country, they have more champions in proportion to their population than any other country in the world.

Just a quick question for you guys across the pond in the UK. If you had to rate the popularity of the sports where would boxing land? I know Football is 1, that's obvious, but I ask because every fight I see over there, the arena is always packed and I would assume TV ratings are great, but that's just from my perspective on the outside looking in.

Ward has won his fights in much more dominating fashion. Froch has an excellent resume, but he struggled big time with Taylor before the stoppage. He had a very close fight with Pascal, and he lost to Kessler. I'll admit, he looked sensational against Abraham. Still, Ward dominated a man that beat Froch. It's how you beat your opponents. If Floyd and Manny had the same wins, but struggled instead of dominating, they'd be seen as great fighters, but not as great as they are currently perceived.

Well i would say that as a sport football takes up most of the sports money and following, then after that the rest have very specific followings with class and a social background having a large baring on what sport your into.

Boxing is lumped with other sports. The only boxer most people could name at present is Amir Kahn

Yes but judging from your thread title, the Yanks are winning the Grammar War.

If you wanna start talking about p4p, Puerto Rico makes both the U.S and the U.K look like tomato cans.

Boxing in the UK is only shown on cable & not free TV anymore as the Tony Blair Labour party of lesbian socialist paramilitaries who also control the BBC/ITV deem boxing to be un-PC.

When Boxing was shown on free TV the ratings shot through the roof, back in the 80's/90's even non boxing fans knew who the national & world champions were & i've never ever encountered any man who's ever said "Publicly"that he dos'nt like boxing & he'd be despised & shunned if he did & always the next morning at work or down the boozer the 1st thing yer normally came out with was "Watch the fight last night did yer" Everybody is a fan of boxing including a fair % of the female population it's just a pity that we are starved of it on TV & the fighters also suffer accordingly by lack of exposure, even the press rarely give it any ink:-(

Any boxing event in any town or city in the UK is a lock for a full house & World Championship boxing when shown on TV more than carries it's weight when juxtaposed with a major football match. But Loe Public is just starved of it & the BBC puts more emphisis on covering ****in "Show Jumping & Tennis or sycrinezed swimming rather than to give the masses the boxing they crave. It's marketing insanity but the PC brigade rule.

    Football
    Boxing,
    Cricket,
    Rugby,

I only posted this thread to highlight the seeming decline of the US stronghold on boxing.

To say that we have some form of inferiority complex with the US is ridiculous we cant get jealous of our own child now can we.

I could of used an example of many other countries but decided not to.

I just love the anti Brit anti Europe sentiments that come out of the US posters on here.

If you look at the levels of talent and success in modern US fighters, with reference to a modern developed genuine super power it is truly laughable.(PS i am trying to be inflammatory)
